The Obelus

PART 2: -5- It was never meant to be

You wake up. You realise you aren't dead after jumping off that cliff, and you are very much alive in a run down shack. You look around frantically and look around your surroundings. There is a broken down table, a few cups, and then the 'bed' you are lying on. The 'bed' couldn't even be called an actual bed. It was just made from some pieces of scrap cardboard, with a towel over it.

You hear footsteps outside. You hide quickly under the table and see someone looking at you from above.

"Hey uh, it seems like you woke up. Need anything? My name's Olivia if you need me."

"Where am I and what am I doing here..?"

"You are at my small tent. I just saw you unconscious, from jumping down the cliff I assume?"

"Well, yeah, but why did you save me?"

"Mainly because there are also other subjects that try to escape and come down here. I check every morning to see if people are there or not. You know, you should be really careful. I heard the Obelus are right now suspecting that I'm living here. It's really unsafe for you to stay here so you should really leave."

"But where do I go?"

"Oh yes, you can take some of my gear. Hmm, I'd like you to go find June, Subject 77. He is an escapee, and I'm sure you'll do just fine with him. Here are these. Take this glock, hmm... also this Vivun Oculi, and also a few weapons, just in case. Oh yes, and a map to find June. You can borrow my car since I'm not really using it. Here are the keys."

"I have a question. What's a Vivun Oculi?"

"It's pretty much a lens that can detect heartbeat and warmth. You should really go now. I'm afraid they are gonna come any second. We should stop the chitter chatter and leave."

"But what about you, Olivia? Aren't they gonna come for you?"

"If I go, who's going to take care of the escaping subjects?"

You take the car keys and quickly leave. You say goodbye to Olivia, and then start up the car. You put your hands on the wheel, and start driving. The car starts coughing soon.

You slowly follow the map and make your way up a mountain to stay for the night. The mountain is steep, and the water you have in your water bottle is long gone.

You hear a little explosion behind you. You turn around and see that the little tent you were in yesterday is in flames. The whole place is burnt down, and there are no signs of Olivia anymore. You feel guilty for not bringing Olivia along with you.

Soon, you notice that a few mutants are coming your way. You can't tell exactly what they are, but you know that they must've been sent by the Obelus to come kill you. You kill them off one by one with the junker musket, and take a big sigh of relief.

You drive off the mountain in search of June, and in front of you, is a dry barren desert.
