Today is the day Ryan turned 15. Ryan was running over his thoughts for his birthday while eating eggs and toast for breakfast. His mom was preparing more eggs for the rest of the family and his dad was drinking a cup of coffee while reading the newspaper. Ryan wondered if his parents were planing a surprise party.

"Hey Mom what day is it?" Ryan asked hoping for her to say his birthday but her only response was "Wednesday". Ryan sat in his chair with disappointment and thought for a second , did his parents actually forget about his birthday? Or are they trying to act like they don't know to surprise him at the end of the day? It was hard to tell if they were acting or not but if they are acting they were pretty good at it.

Ryan finished his last piece of his toast and finally realized that he was late for school. Ryan rushed to get all his supplies and ran to his bus stop and waited for while not knowing that the bus had already left. He slowly walked home to ask his parents to drive him to school but they left for work when he ran out the door. This not so ordinary wednesday was not what Ryan was hoping for on his birthday. He tried calling his parents but they wouldn't pick up.

Ryan decided to fiddle around because his school was to far away to walk there. He walked around the house for a while but came to a stop when he saw a picture of his 17 year old sister that disappeared a year ago. He sat and stared at his sisters picture and wondered what happened to her

After a couple of hours he got bored so he went to the fridge to see if there was any food for him to eat but he had no luck finding anything that doesn't need cooking. Ryan looked at the clock and saw that school was now over and his parents should be home soon. Once his parents got home Ryan explained what happened and how horrible and boring his day was.

"Why don't you go get dressed in fancy clothes and we will go out for dinner" his dad said in an enthusiastic voice. "What's the occasion?" Ryan asked trying to get the words 'your birthday' out of their mouths

. "Because you said you were sad" his Mom said in a soft voice. Ryan sadly went upstairs to his room. He almost cried because his parents don't remember his birthday. When he arrived at his room there was a present on his bed. His parents must have sneaked the present in while he went to his bus stop. He picked it up with excitement and opened it but there was nothing in it.

Ryan went downstairs to ask his parents about their lousy present when a bunch of people yelled "surprise!" He was now the happiest he's been all day. Lots of people said happy birthday and he smiled so much he could have been a clown. He was amazed by how fast his parents got all these people in while he went up stairs. Ryan sat down in front of a chocolate cake everyone sang happy birthday to him and he wished that from now on his life would change. Ryan blew out the candles and the ground rumbled alog with the sound of thunder. It was an earthquake
