Knox hid inside an empty garbage bin near the penitentiary, watching out for passing guards through the broken lid. There was one earlier, whom he had faced and gave a vision of a prison break. He didn't know what time it was, but they should be out for lunch at any moment.
He heard a creak, and he jumped and pointed his gun at the one who opened the bin. He gasped. For a moment, he stared into the boy's big brown eyes.
In an instant, he saw the child's memories from his eyes. For a moment, he was looking down at a plate full of meat, eggs, and beans.
He blinked. His vision moved toward a woman in front. She was curious. She wiped her hands on her apron and stared at the window. Her hands flew to her mouth. More movement. The kid was going toward the window too. First was the view of the sky and roofs. His vision traveled down, and he saw the Senator lying on the ground, dead. He found Seth's gaze and held it. And then . . .
Knox blinked, a sharp pain shooting up his head. "You're the Senator's grandkid, huh?" He jumped out of the bin and knitted his brows.
The kid didn't answer. It could be trauma, but he remembered the last thing he saw in his vision. He had stared straight into Seth's eyes.
"What did he do to you?"
The kid still didn't reply. Instead, he ran toward the penitentiary's main entrance. Knox gasped and gritted his teeth. So Seth had been planning to use the kid as a way to escape the dungeons.. Knox clucked. It was risky, but he might as well use the kid too. He got the item Theo had let him borrow from his bag. He placed the round bomb on the boy's hands and said, "Listen, when you run in there, throw this at them and run out immediately, do you understand?"
The boy nodded, and Knox raised his brows in awe.
"All right." Knox patted his shoulders. "Go."
As the kid ran toward the entrance of the main hall, Knox hid by the side of a house and watched as the guards greeted the boy with smiles.
Their expressions soon changed to fear when the small boy showed them the bomb he was holding. Without warning, he threw the explosive as far it could go inside the penitentiary and ran away.. The impact of the explosion sent him flying toward the other side of the street.
As soon as the debris had settled, Knox ran over to the boy. He was dead. He gave a quick salute, a hand to his chest, and then turned back and entered the burning edifice. The dungeons should be fine, he thought, as they were located underground. Burning debris welcomed him inside. Some of the prison guards were still alive but were trapped and unable to get out and save themselves. Death was what awaited them anyway. Knox found a dead sentinel near the hatch on the floor where the stairs went down toward the cellars was. He fumbled for the keys on the guard's belt and grabbed them all.
He pulled on the hatch door and made his way down, stumbling on the steps but then quickly finding his balance. He then broke into a sprint. Several prisoners asked him what was going on. "Prison break!" He grinned, showing them the keys.
The latest inmate would be put in the inner cells, so Seth would be somewhere near the end of the hall. "Bingo."
He saw Seth lying on the ground, but as soon as he called out to him, he pushed himself up and shook his head. "Next time you kill off my puppet, tell me first, would ya?" the younger lad grumbled. Then he stood up and smirked. "You took so long. Now open up, will you?"
Knox grinned. "Lemme just stare at you like that for a moment. I won the bet after all."
Seth frowned and crossed his arms. "Fine, fine. I'll go with you. A deal's a deal."
