Mason- Camilo

Mason was busy painting his room, He painted almost everywhere on the walls with several different types of landscapes. However there was one wall that he kept strictly for the weird dreams he has been having.

Mason painted the last stroke of it with its orange and bright fierce color before hearing his Mother calling from below the tower. It was a calm morning as the wind softly blew.

Mason looked back at his work and smiled before rushing to the window to bring her in, Using the rope they kept near the window as always.

"Thank you.. Mason" His fake mother said as she fixed her hair before setting down her basket. It was filled with mint leaves and all different kinds of plants used for tea and medicine.

Mason was practically beaming as he quickly spoke to her. "You know Mami i was thinking that maybe i could come with you to the town, After all there doing the lights and- The lady put up her hand in front on his face signaling him to stop.

"You know better Mason. You stay here in this tower where it's safe away from people who could potentially harm you."

Mason shook his head. "No, because every night on my birthday they host those lights. It's like I can feel a certain connection.."

"I know it's crazy but i think they were meant for me"

The lady bitterly stood up and grabbed Mason by the arm leading him to his bedroom. "You're staying in here until you learn I'm doing this for your protection, do you understand!?" She yelled as she tossed him to the bed.

Mason didn't say a word as he only glanced at the floor he knew whenever she yelled, it was to stay silent or wait for the right moment to speak again.

The lady sighed. "I'm sorry for yelling at you mason i just hope you understand i'm doing this for you"

Just before she left the room she heard him call her name before she was at the door frame.

"Yes Mason?" She asked as she turned around.

"I do understand. I just wanted to come with you for some new paint and paint brushes you know since my birthday is coming up and it would really mean a lot" Mason said as he did a small laugh.

The lady's hard stare slowly changed into a warm soft smile. "I'll think about it"

And with that she left his bedroom, closing his door.

Mason fell back on his bed onto his pillow as he stared up at the ceiling. But the longer he stared the more he couldn't help but think why would his mother keep him locked up in the tower. He surely thought he was old enough due to being 14 years old.

Mason turned over to his side of the bed staring down at the floor as he notice something green moving towards him.

Mason sat up and looked more closely at it as he extended his arm out for it. The small chameleon gladly took his arm and started climbing.

"I guess your stuck here too." Mason whispered.

An hour had passed and Mason was back at the window hugging his Mother. "I'll be back in 3 days no later than 3 understand?" She asked as she ruffled his curls.

"Si Mami"

And the two broke out of the tight embrace. Mason watched as she left his view from the tower wondering when he'll ever be able to go out there. But instead he simply sighed as he played with the chamelon he found as a he sat at the window seat.
