(Alan's POV)

It was a day like any other. I was sleeping in like 3 or 4 a.m. in the morning, as usual, when my phone started blaring. Groaning I flipped around and reached for it, sleepily flicking open the app. It was a voice message and I clicked on to listen. I put it on speaker the first time. Then suddenly sat up when I heard the voice.

All my sleepiness was instantly gone when I carefully listened a second time, making sure I didn't misunderstand anything.

"M-one-double-five-one-zero-N R-three-C-three-one-V-three-D. H-three-four-D-Q-U-four-R-seven-three-R-five N-zero-W. Four-five Q-U-one-C-K-two-Y-four-five P-zero-double-five-one-B-two-three."

[Note: guys just write it down on a spare piece of paper or anything. It'll decode.]

The translation showed up clearly and unmistakably in my head for the message delivered by Tri in secret code.

Adrenaline shot through my veins as I screamed quietly, feeling blood rushing to my head.

The big day had come.

I leaped out of the bed, grabbed my trademark black hoodie and rushed into the shower. A minute later I was fully dressed and washed—I learnt that speed the hard way—and sprinting down the stairs to my car. I snatched up the car keys and pulled on my mask as I stepped into the freezing wind of early autumn morning. I pushed my car to its maximum speed, crushing the gas pedal, and arrived, breathless, at the headquarters ten minutes later. I threw open my car door and tossed the keys to a worker while running inside until I reached the new office of my manager and Joel, who worked together now. I knocked and pushed the door open.

The next second, instantly, I swore to all the gods up and below and cursed shit outta myself for not waking up five minutes earlier.

Fuck. This is awkward. All of them were there—Chris, Joel, Tri, and they were staring at me expectantly. Chris was smirking, crossing his arms. I saw him open his mouth and read his lips.

I defeated you again, he said.

Slowly I clenched my fists together and hissed in frustration. Not next time, you bastard.

"008, you're nearly late." Joel said coldly, snapping me out of my thoughts, "A minute more and we would've started without you. Is this how you prepare for your first double-mission?"

"No, sir." I let my head drop, turning a bit red at the tip of the ears. "It won't happen next time."

"Hope not." Joel turned back to the quantum screen suspended in front of him, frowning. "Right, Mr. Alan...Come here."

I walked over and slowly pressed my fingertip onto the device. A small window sparkling with blue popped up.
