[Warning: VERY BRIEF mention of suicidal thoughts.]

[I sorta have writer's block... But I like seeing my readers happen even when I'm not, so enjoy this chapter!]

(Alan's POV)

I nearly leapt out of my skin at Tri's bloody scream.

He has rarely lost his control in front of me, except when he was really disturbed by something. He was always the calm, cool manager that I had grown to nurse a soft spot in my heart for.

He was a patient, strict fatherly figure to me, and I was okay with that because he rarely even got angry and scolded me. But here was he now, yelling straight into my ear like somebody's trying to murder him or something.

A jumble of panicked shouts suddenly ripped through the speaker and it felt like whoever that came from was injecting a red-hot piece of wire straight into my eardrums. Instinctively I shied away and held the phone at arm's length.

"Alan?! Did you hear me?!" Tri cried, "I told you to come over fast!"

"What's the matter?" I reflexively snapped, my temper rising faster than ever due to my almost pierced eardrums and the harsh tone of his orders. Also, he was Rude with a capital R.

......Well, maybe the incident with Chris had something to do with it too.

"Get on your way here and I'll explain!" He yelled.

There was a split second of hesitation for me as I debated whether to listen. For all I know he might be kidnapped and forced to lure me over into some gangsters' hands to die with a knife at his throat—

But no, he wasn't that kind of person.

I knew he would die sooner than yield to anyone to put me in danger.

And I knew, because of that, I was willing to die to save him from whatever life-threatening situation he was in.

He changed my life, and I trusted him, after all.

"I'm coming." I said simply, leapt up from the place where I was sitting and rushed into the house, Avem following right on my heels. I grabbed my house keys, my emergency weapons pack and the small foldable first-aid kit I always bring on me no matter what, then sprinted out, slamming the door but not bothering to lock it, nobody was able to break in anyway.

After about half a minute I was stepping into a cab, giving the driver the address of the hospital in an urgent whisper. Five seconds later, we were shooting onto the highway, Avem safely shrunk into tiniest size and hid inside my pocket.

"Impressive."

I jumped: I had almost forgotten Tri was still on the phone. Quickly I leaned over and pulled down the thick curtain that separated me from the driver, to stop him from overhearing anything.

"I learnt that speed from you the hard way, if you've forgotten." I snapped, still angry, "Now EXPLAIN, I demand you."

"......Okay." A pause, and there was a bit of guilt in his voice as he continued, "First of all, I-I'm sorry to have shouted at you like that."

I rolled my eyes as my fury instantly melted away at his apology like snow before a fire. It was impossible to stay mad at him.

"If you tell me everything this second, I'll forgive you."

"Alright." He agreed, immediately perking up. "So, I was just going to find Joel and set up some sort of schedule between the two of us, you know, clients, missions, meetings, that kind of stuff that we managers have to deal with.
