The strands of her vibrant black hair fell on her face while her sea green eyes scanned the yellowish and a bit crumpled paper. Her eyebrows met, concentrating and absorbing the small letters printed in blank ink.

Looking at her, I leaned against the table and waited as no word came out from my mouth.

"You know," her soft voice said, breaking the silence, "people in school call you an introvert."

The unfamiliar word sunk in me then I spoke, "Introvert?"

I earned a quick glance from her then a small smile formed on her face, showing her white set of teeth. Her long thick eyelashes batted down then up again, making my breath hitch and my heart skip. "Shy," she said and looked back at the paper she's reading, "timid, quiet.... and not much of a talker."

My eyebrow raised while the corners of my lips turned into an incredulous smile. "I like my own world."

A small scoff escaped her lips and she shook her head. "Oh sure you do."

"People say you're trouble," I pointed out in a matter-of-fact tone. I've alway been frank to her, seeing that everything I say seems to challenge her.

I've always been a challenge to her.

She ripped her eyes away from the paper and looked at me with glint and mischief in her eyes. "Trouble?" She let out a sick laugh. "That's like a quarter of my life. They don't even know half of it."

A quiet chuckle escaped my lips. I looked down on my black sneakers then glancing up, observing the brown coated walls. "So an introvert and a delinquent in the same room?" I laughed at my statement. My body shifted, my back straightening and crossing my left foot over my right. "How ironic."

Without looking at me, her eyebrow raised and she scoffed. "Terribly ironic," she commented and glanced up to me. I couldn't read her eyes but somehow I managed to conclude that her previous hatred towards me vanished.

"But we managed to be friends," she whispered. "Who knows? We might be a good combination."

And there it is again -- that challenged smirk. She likes to be challenged and I've already proved that I'm a challenge to her.
