"Cecilia!" a voice called from behind me.

"Cece, hold on!" shouted another.

I turned around, my brown hair falling back down on my shoulders. I fixed my glasses and stared at my friends, Camilo and Laurel, running after me. I snicker as Laurel beats Camilo yet again. It had to have been the 10,385th time this had happened. And every time it was the same. They would yell for me to hold on, I would stop, they would run after me, Laurel would beat Camilo by a landslide, and finally, Camilo would catch up, then stop, and start breathing heavily, as if he had just run a marathon.

"Don't worry..." Camilo started, "I'm here!" He started breathing heavily and dramatically fell against a locker.

"Let's go drama queen, we can't be late for our next class." I laugh. I turned around and without paying attention, I bumped into someone. "Sor- oh. It's you." I rolled my blue eyes in disgust.

"Of course it's me! The one and only. Shouldn't you be in class?" The boy asked.

"That was where we were going before you got in the way, Logan." Laurel griped.

Logan Brentwood. There were only so many ways to describe this vile, annoying worm that stood before me.

"Oh don't be so angry! You know, we really could be great friends if you all didn't hate me so much." Logan smirks.

"Did you ever stop to think that maybe there was a reason we hated your guts?" Camilo says.

"Oh really? Then what's the reason?" Logan asks, holding his hand up to his ear, making it look as if he was listening, but I knew he was being sarcastic.

"Ummm...well...you see... the reason is..." Camilo rambles, trying to come up with a reason. The truth was, the feud was really weird. It started when they were young, but at this point, no one really knew why they were fighting.

"Come on," Laurel interrupted. "We have more important things to do." She sneers at Logan and grabs my arm. She pulled me away and Camilo followed. Together we all walked to our next class.

It was 15 minutes into history class when the danger bell rang. The teacher looked up from her lesson on the History of the Salkalines.

Salkalines were gems that resided on each island that powered them. This was by far the most fun lesson of the year because everyone got to share their family's legends about their respective island's Salkaline. Even though everyone at school lived on the Ice Court's island, there were many families from many different islands, all with different Salkalines. For example, my father is from the Void Court, and he has a legend about the Void Salkaline, and my mother is from the Ice Court, and her family has their legend about the Ice Salkaline. My father moved from the Void Court's island to be with my mom on the Ice Court's island. He has void powers along with my younger sister, while my mom, my older brother, and I all have ice powers. Back to the danger bell though.

Everyone began squirming around at their desks, as the danger bell seldom goes off.

"It's alright guys. It's probably just routine maintenance." The teacher says calmly, though she walked to the door, looked out into the hallway, and locked the door. "Okay, everyone! Please follow me to the back of the classroom where we will sit and wait for the all-clear."

"Sit and wait? If there's a real danger out in the hallways. What's the dangerous thing gonna do? Look inside the classroom, see us all sitting quietly, and walk out?" One student asks.

"If there was a real danger, which there isn't, we would use our powers to get us safely out the window. We can make slides with ice, water, trees-" She continues, but it was kind of drowned out by the screams we heard in the hallway. "OKAY EVERYONE RUN!"

Everyone started opening (or breaking) the windows. We used our powers to help get us down. I quickly made an ice slide and a bunch of the class started sliding down it. I waited at the bottom of the slide for Camilo and Laurel. I saw Camilo come down on his ice ladder, but Laurel was nowhere to be found. I looked up to the window and I saw Laurel looking down. She was shaking like a leaf.

"Laurel! Just go down the slide! We've done this countless times before!" Camilo called to her.

"Not from 300 feet up!" Laurel yells down at him.

"It's not even 300 feet," Camilo mutters.

"Laurel, come on!" I shouted. "Just close your eyes and slide down!"

"What if I fall?" Laurel cried.

"Then we will catch you. But you better hurry up or I'll drag you down here myself!" Camilo shouts, already preparing to make stairs to climb up.

"Okay okay! I'm coming!" She says, but before she can slide down, someone else jumps out the window, grabs Laurel, and brings her to the ground.

I looked around, thinking that it was Camilo, but he just looked up, dumbstruck.

"Well, I think this calls for a thank you." A voice says from behind us.

Camilo and I turn around, "Logan?

"That would be me. And no need to thank me, Laurel. I only just saved you from some lunatics that broke into the school." Logan smirks.

Laurel rolls her eyes and walks away from Logan and back to Camilo and I. "I didn't need your help, Logan."

"Oh really? Because it kind of seems like you did." Logan crosses his arms and grins. "I heard the entire conversation between your little group. Seems like you were a tad bit scared."

"I wasn't scared." Camilo brags. Laurel hits him over the head. "Hey!" He exclaims.

"You were definitely scared," Laurel says.

"Well so were you!" Camilo grumbles.

"GUYS!" I shout. "Stop arguing! We have to get out of here! Like, now!" I point up and sure enough, the lunatics, or Rebels, were already looking out the window.

Logan looks up and back at us. "Okay, follow me. I know a secret way into the woods. I know we aren't on great terms, but you have to trust me."

"I am not following him." Laurel rolls her eyes.

"It's our best shot," Camilo says.

"Okay then! Follow me!" Tristan grins as they all follow him into the forest.
