I did not mean to kill her.
I was just angry I would never hurt my sister. The air was icy cold as I just sat there staring. I do not know what had come over me, it all happened so fast... so fast. I trembled from the freezing cold enclosing in on me and my thoughts. The dead grass tickled against my bare legs being revealed by my jean shorts. I just sat there frozen in my own thoughts. "it's not funny anymore." I mumble to myself in the dark. I reach my hand toward the burnt 6-year-old, my sister Anna. I held my breath. She was dead, wasn't she? I killed her didn't I. The sound of footsteps approached behind me.
"You really messed up, didn't you?" A voice said stopping behind me. It was a man's voice, dark and cold like the air. So cold. Why was it so cold? A heavy hand was placed on my shoulder. "I forgive you Ember. It truly was not your fault. You just had no control over your anger." His voice seized, the feeling of his hand leaving. I whimpered. So cold. So cold. So cold. I jump out of my thoughts when the face of a girl around my age, 16 maybe 17, popped into my view. She was hovering above the grass and frowning. She was very pale, and her hair was stringy and a dead blonde color. She had noticeable bags under her eyes. She looked cold. "I apologize." she said in a soft childlike voice. She spoke slowly and calmly, carefully pronouncing her words.
My eyes water at her apology. "It was not your fault." she said softer than before. "You did not wish to be like us. Neither did I." She softly floated into the grass between me and Anna. She held my face in her hands, they were cold but comforting. Her eyes were a sad grey with no sparkle. I spoke my voice not sounding as if it could even be mine, "Who Are You?" Unlike her I stumbled over my words and spoke quickly with no emotion. "I am Marigold." She said it like it wasn't her name, like she made it up to tease me. She floated gracefully up and rested on her feet reaching a hand for me.
I reached for it slowly...I didn't wish to kill her too.
