Once you got into your rhythm, the school days seemed to breeze by. You always ate lunch with Jean and Armin's group, usually with everyone there but sometimes just you Jean, Conny and Sasha would go out and get food. Though sometimes you felt out of place, you rarely felt truly excluded. You'd learned that you always had to bring extra food for Sasha, and she would swear you were a goddess every time. You learned that Reiner had the biggest crush on Historia, and that Ymir was seconds away from skinning him alive whenever he came close. Marco and Historia were definitely the kindest of the group, and Conny and Sasha the most boisterous.
Really the only two people you could never quite connect with were Eren and Mikasa. It seemed to you like Mikasa hardly talked at all, and when she did it was always short and precise sentences. If you tried to talk to her she would give you a quick, if not blunt, answer, and then go back to silence. Eren just seemed like he couldn't possibly give a damn what you had to say, regardless of the topic, which pissed you off immensely. He was always ranting about something too, usually hockey, though sometimes it was whatever TV show he was currently watching or something dumb that a teacher had done.
Conny took out a hydro flask and banged it three times on the table like a gavel to get everyone attention. "Has anyone given any thought to our homecoming after party?"
"Not it!" Jean touched a finger to his nose. The group seemed to always resort to either rock paper scissors or nose goes as a way of resolving things. "I did it last year."
"I can't do it because I don't want to." Annie monotoned, not bothering to look up from her food.
"I'll do it!" Historia volunteered.
"Wait, I'm confused." you raised your hand, feeling stupid for not understanding. "What afterparty?"
"Shit, my bad." Conny apologized. "So basically, every year someone hosts a small party after homecoming. Just us and maybe a few other people. Obviously you are invited. We just get food and play games. And drink."
"Some more than others." Ymir chimes in, looking over at Reiner.
"That sounds fun. Can I invite someone?" you ask, hoping you're not stepping over any boundaries by asking to invite a friend.
"Of course!" Historia beams.
"Who's going with dates and who's going with the group?" Sahs piped up, taking a bite of her sandwich.
"Does it matter?" Eren questioned. "People who don't have a date can just go with the group, we're all ending up at the same place anyways."
Before the discussion could continue, the bell rang and it was decided plans would be hashed out further in the group chat. Everyone began shoving their things back into their bags and heading off in groups or pairs to their next classes. You were stuffing wrappers into a pocket of your nag when Historia reminded you that she had something to tell you in French class.
And just like that, you had homecoming plans. Homecoming plans but no date. And no dress. The fact that you had no dress you could fix, but the no date made things a little harder. It made you crabby too. Crabby at Jean specifically, for never hashing out exactly what you were. The two of you had never specified that you weren't together. And you were annoyed that he had a party last year that you never heard about. You knew practically nothing about the boy despite the fact you two had been hooking up practically all summer.
"What did Historia want?" Jean asked you, coming up beside you to walk to class.
"Nothing." you said, walking away. You didn't feel like talking to him right now. So what if you were being petty? So what if you were mad and you didn't have a right to be? You tried walking away anyways, but Jeans legs were longer than yours and he caught up to you in about two strides. "Did you do the homework last night?"
