Suggested by @MammonsJuicyCockI was on my way to pick up my boyfriend, Carmelo, for our date. It was our one-month anniversary, and I wanted to do something special for him.
I walked up to his door and rang the doorbell, but it was his mother who answered the door. "Oh, hello there," she said. "Are you one of Carmelo's friends?"
"Um, yes, Ma'am," I lied, because he wasn't out to her yet. "He's my friend from school. We're hanging out today so I came to get him."
"Oh, that's nice. I'm glad my baby is making new friends. Hang on, I'll get him for you. Honey, your friend is here!" She called the last part up the stairs.
"Okay, Mom!" He called back. After about a minute he ran down the stairs and to the door
"Hey, Melo," I greeted, happy to see him. He blushed a little at the nickname.
"Oh, uh, hey bro," Carmelo replied. He was obviously trying to make it sound like we were just friends in front of his mom.
"Make sure to be home by dinner, baby," his mom told him.
"Don't worry, Mrs. DeMonte, I'll have him home by 9," I reassured her. "Now c'mom, 'bro'. Let's go."
"Yeah, okay," he agreed. "See ya, Mom."
"Goodbye, boys," she called after us as we started to walk away.
We walked in silence at first, just in case we were still in earshot. But when we turned the corner, we stopped and I pulled Carmelo into a hug. "It's good to see you, babe. I missed you."
Carmelo glanced around us to make sure no one was looking before hugging me back. "We just saw each other a few days ago though," he reminded me.
"A few days too many."
"Heh, sorry, I was pretty busy."
"S'okay. I'm just happy to see you now."
"Me too," Carmelo said, pulling away from the hug and slipping his hand into mine instead. He had been getting more comfortable with holding hands outside lately. I was proud of him for it, even though it was a small step, I knew that it meant he was a little more comfortable with who he is. I squeezed his hand reassuringly as we started walking again.
"So," Carmelo started, "where is this date you're taking me to?"
"I told you already, it's a secret," I said.
"But I wanna know," he protested.
"You'll know when we get there."
"But-" before he could finish his sentence, I accidentally tripped on a crack in the sidewalk. "Y/N!" Carmelo called out as he caught me. "Are you okay??"
"Uh, yeah-" I said, a little startled. "I-I think I'm fine."
"Good. And as for YOU," he yelled at the sidewalk. "How DARE you trip him! What has he ever done to you?? Nothing! Honestly fuck you. Y/N is way cuter than you and I bet you're just jealous!"
"Honey, please stop yelling at the sidewalk-" I said, but he didn't hear me over all the curses he was shouting at the ground.
People were looking at us now. A mom covered her daughter's ears and glared at us as she walked away. "Sorry! I'm sorry about him. Carmelo, c'mom, you're making a scene." I grabbed his hand and dragged him away from his new enemy. "So, why did you yell at the sidewalk?"
"Because it tripped you! I'm your boyfriend it's my job to protect you," Carmelo told me.
"I don't need protecting from the sidewalk though-"
"Better safe than sorry! Now we know it'll never trip you again. Cuz it's too scared of me now."
He looked so proud of himself that I couldn't help but smile. "You idiot," I said affectionately.
"Ey, I may be an idiot, but you're the one who chose to date me. You knew what you were signing up for."
"I know, and I wouldn't have it any other way."
"Aw, stop, you're making me blush," he said, but I could see him smiling. He was so pretty when he smiled.
'God, what did I do to deserve such an amazing boyfriend?'
We kept walking, it wasn't too far, but Carmelo kept asking 'are we there yet?' like a little kid on a road trip. The date was at the park, where I had first confessed to him last month. I set up a picnic for us at a pretty spot beside a cliff, where we could look down at the scenery and watch the sunset.
"Wow, how'd you find such a nice spot? It's hella romantic, dude. Look at all this nature," Carmelo remarked as we sat down on the picnic blanket.
"Uh, I mean it's a park there's nature in all the spots," I pointed out.
"Still. You're so good at all this romance stuff, I'd never think of this. Like, look at how fancy this blanket is."
"Melo, this is literally just one of the blankets from my bed, you've seen it before."
"But it's still fancy!" he exclaimed. "Look, I'm just trying to say I appreciate your efforts to take me on a nice date, okay?"
"Thank you, love. I appreciate your appreciation," I told him. "Now, c'mon, let's eat. I got some good stuff."
As I started unpacking the picnic basket, taking out a few things, Carmelo asked, "What's that?"
"Oh, yeah, remember when I asked you how to make muffins the other day? It was for this. I dunno if they're that good but I tried."
"Ooh, yum, lemme have one. What flavor?"
I handed one to him. "They're blueberry, just like you."
"Hey, I've told you before, I'm not a blueberry!" he protested. "Just cuz I have blue hair doesn't mean I gotta be a berry of that color."
"No, it does," I said as I continued to unpack the basket, setting everything out on the blanket. "It's okay though cuz you're a cute blueberry."
"I'm not a blueberry, cute or otherwise!" he objected, forgetting about the muffin. "You're just lying!"
"I think you're the one who's lying, blueberry."
"I'm not!"
"Sure, keep telling yourself that, babe."
"Hmph," he grunted. Then he just sat there being grumpy about being a blueberry for a little while before muttering, "can I at least be a handsome blueberry instead of a cute blueberry?"
"Of course. You're a handsome blueberry. Now that that's settled are you gonna eat your muffin?" I reminded him.
"Oh yeah, the muffin." He took a bite of it.
"What do you think?"
"It's... interesting?"
"It's not bad, is it?" I asked, worried he didn't like it.
"No, no. It's not bad. It's just, like, more salty than your typical muffin."
"Salty? It's not supposed to be salty." I grabbed a muffin and bit it, only to be met with an assault of salt, covering any other flavor. I spit it out. "Ew, it is salty. Why is it so salty?"
"Did you maybe put in salt instead of sugar?" Carmelo suggested.
"Oh no, I think I did."
"Oof. I wanted a muffin."
"I'm sorry, Melo. Ah, I'm so stupid. Who mixes up salt with sugar?" I asked, wishing I'd tasted them before so I could've had time to make more.
"It's okay, I mean we have other stuff right?" He dug through the picnic basket and took out two sandwiches, handing one to me. "Look, other stuff. Sandwiches are basically just as good as muffins anyway."
I took it from him. "I know you're just trying to make me feel better, but thanks."
"Hey, maybe I can help you next time. With making the muffins," Carmelo said as he took a bite of his sandwich.
"Sure, sounds fun." I took a bite of my sandwich too. "It's a date then."
"A-a date? he stammered, his cheeks dusted with pink. "Come on it's just two guys making some muffins that's not a date!"
'We're literally on a date right now though,' I thought. But instead of pointing that out, I decided to take the opportunity to mess with him a little.
"It could be a date," I said. "All depends on what we do after."
"Uh, like what?"
I leaned toward him, murmuring, "Something that'll make us much more than just two guys making muffins."
Carmelo blushed even more and tried to hide his face with his hands. "Aaah, how do you say stuff like that?? You're literally gonna kill me!"
"Heh, sorry honey. You're just so cute when you get flustered I couldn't help it."
"What did you mean?"
"Hm?"
"Um, what did you mean that we could do?" he asked, averting his gaze from mine nervously.
"Oh, I have no idea. I didn't actually have anything in mind I just wanted to mess with you," I admitted. "What'd you think I meant?"
"NOTHING! I WASN'T THINKING OF ANYTHING!" Carmelo objected loudly. "Nope, just muffins. That's all. Now eat your sandwich and stop interrogating me."
"You know I don't believe you but whatever." I decided to let it go and just eat my sandwich like he said.
We ate and talked for a while, until we ran out of food and the sun began to set, painting the sky in the colors of fire. We decided to stay and watch, because what was a more romantic way to end a date than watching the sunset together?
Carmelo was cuddled up next to me, his head resting on my shoulder because he was tired. "The sky's so pretty," he commented.
"Not as pretty as you," I said, taking the opportunity to flirt with him again.
"Nah, sky's better," he mumbled sleepily. Normally he would've probably gotten all flustered from a comment like that, but he was too tired now.
'I should probably bring him home,' I thought. 'Otherwise, he's just gonna fall asleep on me-'
Before I could say anything, a guy passed by walking his dog, and Carmelo frantically scattered away from me so that he wouldn't see us cuddling.
I could see the fear in his eyes as he started looking through the empty picnic basket to seem like he was doing something, anything else.
As he passed us, his dog barked at us. "Daisy, stop barking at them, you're being rude! Sorry about her."
"It's okay," I said, not fully paying attention since I was more worried about my boyfriend.
The little dog was still barking, and her owner had to pull on her leash to get her to leave us alone. "C'mon, Dais, let's go."
When they were out of earshot I turned back to Carmelo and asked, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I-I'm fine." But his voice was trembling, and I knew that he wasn't.
I pulled him into a hug to comfort him. "He didn't care, you know? I don't think he even noticed."
"But what if he did..?" he asked, shaking. "What if he hated us and he yelled at us?"
"Then I'd yell right back at him. But honestly, I don't think he was homophobic, Melo. He had a pride flag pin on his bag. Not everyone is out to get us."
"But so many people are! Anyone could've walked by and seen us. Anyone. Hell, it could've even been my dad. Then what would we do..?" His voice was thick with emotion, cracking at the end. Tears were starting to form in his eyes.
I pushed him away from me to look into his eyes, wiping away his tears. "Carmelo, I know it's hard, but we gotta be brave, okay? Whatever happens, I'll be here for you, because I love you."
He stared at me for a minute, and I was confused before I realized.
'Oh, that was the first time I told him I loved him, wasn't it? I should've waited for a better time. Ah, I probably I made it all awkward, didn't I?'
But before I could apologize, he smiled and said, "I love you too. Thanks, Y/N. For staying with me, even though I'm probably exhausting to deal with. It means a lot."
"Of course. And you're not exhausting, by the way. I don't know why you'd think that."
"If you say so. Look, the sun's gone," he pointed out, probably trying to change the subject.
He was right, the last traces of sunlight were gone, leaving just a whisper of faded orange in the sky. The sun was replaced by a full moon and dozens of stars, shining like diamonds overhead.
"Hey, y'know what'd be romantic?" Carmelo asked, blushing a little. "If we kissed under the moonlight."
"You're right, that probably would be romantic," I agreed, holding his face in my hand, leaning in close. "Why don't we test that theory?"
His face was flushed bright red. "O-okay."
With that, I kissed him. He kissed me back, and we stayed like that for a few moments, enjoying the closeness of one another. Eventually, I had to pull away to breathe. "I love you, Melo," I murmured against his lips.
I could feel him smile when he said, "Love you too, Y/N."A/N: hello, hope you guys like this one! Sorry the updates are a little inconsistent, but I promise I'll get to everybody's requests eventually. By the way, the guy walking his dog is me. Not because I wanted a cameo, but because I wanted my dog Daisy to have a cameo. Even though Ghost Eyes is set in 2008 and she wouldn't have been born yet- it makes sense as long as you don't think about it-
