"Your mana.." The strangely attractive boy muttered.

"My mana..?" I replied, unsure of what was happening. I mean, he just appeared on my balcony and mentioned "mana" for crying out loud!

"It's strange, though, I suppose I should learn your name at least.  Who are you?" He said, with a straight face and calm expression, picking at his ear.

"I-" Who am I?!? I should be the one asking that question! "I am y/n. Who might you be?"

"Ah," he got down from the railing and stepped closer. "I'm Lucas, magician and most talented, smart, and handsome boy of Obelia." He made an expression as though he were satisfied with his grand introduction. An awkward silence filled the area.

"If I may ask, how did you, erm, magically appear out of no where?" I stared at him, gawking at his utter incapability to understand the situation. Read the room!

"Teleporting is easy. You just have to focus your mana and presence into another area. Just move it like this, then over there, then pull it to there.." It was clear he wasn't the best teacher.

"Anyway, point is, I'm really good at using my mana. And teleporting is really easy, for me anyway." He sure liked to brag. "Oh, I almost forgot to mention, you're going to be staying at the Ruby Palace in the Imperial estate from now on." His scarlet eyes moved to the window of my apartment. "You can bring her too," he said, then pointed to my mother.

I was surprised at the change of topic, then realized what he had just said, and was surprised at the topic itself. "I- oh-" I should contain myself before he changes his mind. "Thank you for your kind offer. Of course, I will gladly accept your generosity if you don't change your mind, but why the sudden proposal?" I couldn't believe it! I didn't have to do anymore of those terrible things to keep me and my mother alive! We could finally be happy again!

"On one condition of course" He said, and my mood drooped a little. "You have to wear this at all times. Never take it off." He threw me a pendant. A mysterious green swirled inside the jewel, and I couldn't help but noticed it matched my eyes. Something felt a little off about this, but I wasn't going to refuse such an opulent offer for something as small as this.

"It matches my eyes.." I was hypnotized by the beautiful gift, though thankful at the same time. I never thought anyone would go to this much trouble for someone such as myself.

"If you don't like it, I can get you a different one." He snapped his fingers and hard dirt in the shape of a pendant fell into my hands. I hadn't even flinched. There used to be days were I had to work at many jobs right after my dad died, most of them were labour. Digging and mining were things I was used to by then.

"I will wear this with pride." I snuggled the dirt pendant close to me. Take nothing you get for granted, even if it's dirt. I've learned that lesson the hard way.

"Hey! That was meant to be a joke, I didn't think you would actually-" Lucas ran to me and wiped the dirt off of my bruised cheek. I only returned a blank expression. "Who gave you this bruise? Scratch that, all of these bruises?! I'll find that rat! " A weird red flame glowed in the palm of his hand, but his oddly insane smile slightly scared me, but it was nice to know he cared for me.

"It's okay, really! I'm fine! I-I've gotten used to it after awhile!" After all, Lucas was just trying to show that he cared, so I should at least soften his worries.

"After awhile!? That rat will regret being born," he growled, both his hands now burning with a passionate flame. He looked kind of silly, like an angry dog who just had its food taken away. Still imagining him as a dog, I lifted my hand and patted him on the head, then quickly realized what I had done.

"Ah! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to-" My face was probably as red as a tomato! That was so embarrassing.

"Do it again." He spoke. What did he say? I must have misheard.

"What di-" I managed to choke out of my breath.

"Do it again." He eagerly interrupted me.

I lifted my hand and placed it on Lucas' head, scratching his fluffy hair. A few awkward moments passed by, and I still was in complete disbelief. His eyes were shut, and I couldn't tell what he was thinking just from his face. He opened one of his ruby eyes, which startled me. The eye glowed in the dark, and was brighter than the stars dancing behind him.

"Thanks, see you soon," he mysteriously said and then quickly vanished.

What in the world had just happened?!?
