Even with the blindfold on, I could tell the room was dark. I allowed Petrosyan to snatch me from the lab. Clint and I had argued about this, but I put my foot down. Nat was on my side about this, so I had her support. I had watched him taint the injections twice since the last incident but this one finally sent the soldiers into a frenzy so he could inject me to cause me to pass out.
I was smart enough to always wear the contacts now, so someone was always watching what I was seeing. Hopefully I could get this blindfold off and try to figure out where I was. Realizing I was bound by cloth, it was easy to maneuver my hands out of them. As soon as I got them out, I removed the blindfold and saw the silhouette of a lamp. Reaching over, I turned it on.
Reaching down, I undid the cloth that was around my ankles. Oh that felt so much better. That asshole had it too tight. At least they were nice enough to have lied me down on a bed. Slowly I stood up to stretch my legs. Looking to my left, I noticed a window. This was stupid on their part. Walking over, I looked out the window at my surroundings.
I recognized some of the buildings. I began to hear the door open. Hurrying back to the bed, I sat down on it. Davit walked in with a bottle of water and a bag.
"Ah, Dr. Lacey, you're awake," he said with a smile.
"What is the meaning of this? Davit?"
He chuckled at me; "Oh, we know all about you, Dr. Lacey."
"I'm sure you do not," I said as I took the water bottle from him. "Alexander will know it was you who did this."
"He already does," he said as he sat the bag down beside me on the bed to go sit down in the chair.
"So what is your end game here?"
"You, you are going to tell me everything."
"About?"
"About Pierce, Rumlow, that serum, and Hydra."
"And what makes you think I would do that?"
"Because if you don't do it willingly, I will force it out of you by other means."The door opened and these two men came into the room. I looked over at Petrosyan and back at them. Knowing I couldn't cave so easily, I had to play his game with him. I had pretending to be Pierce's loyal sidekick for almost a year now. Dropping my cover that quick would be detrimental to myself and my own mission. Deciding not to respond to him, I grabbed the bag and opened it to see a sandwich. I pulled it out, opened it and took a bite of it.
Turkey and Swiss, not a bad choice. As I slowly chewed, I was trying to figure out how I was going to respond to him. Maybe no response would be the proper way to handle this. Opening the bottle of water, I took a sip of it. Still, I said nothing. I went back and forth between the sandwich and water.
"Dr. Lacey?"
"Huh," I mumbled.
"Well, is it going to be the easy way or the hard way?"
"I'm just curious about something, Davit.""What is that?"
"What kind of a person are you?"
"What do you mean?"
"I always mean what I say or ask. What kind of a person are you?"
He said nothing. I'm sure I confused him."You are a loving person, no?"
"Of course I am a loving person."
"I'm sure you are. I mean, you loved your brother so much that you became a hematologist and oncologist so you could help save others from rare forms of leukemia."
"How do you know about my brother," he asked through his gritted teeth.Ah! Now we are getting somewhere!!
"See, you showed up out of nowhere about a month ago. You stuck out like a sore thumb with your good looks and debonair demeanor," I said and popped the last bite of the sandwich into my mouth. "The question is, Davit, what do you know about me?"
"I know that Dr. Lucille Lacey has been Alexander Pierce's right-hand woman for almost a year now and you're probably the smartest person on his staff period.""Do you know anything about me personally though?"
"All I know about you, Dr. Lacey, is that you graduated from Harvard with a Doctorate later in life. You're 45 years old and you taught at Harvard before coming here."
"That's all you know about me, Davit? C'mon now, you're holding back on me. Do you know what my Doctorate is in?"
"Honestly, I do not, Dr. Lacey."
"Social Sciences."
"Social Sciences? What do you do with a Doctorate in Social Sciences?"
"I study human behavior, Davit. That is why I know you're lying to me right now. Stop lying and tell me what you really want to know, Davit."He started laughing at me; "Lucille, my sweet Lucille."
"Don't call me."
"Who created that serum?"
"I do not know."
"Yes, you do."
"No, I do not. Pierce did not bring me down until after they had injected the soldiers."
"She speaks the truth," the smaller of the other two men said.Davit nodded his head in acknowledgment.
What's up with that guy? Can he tell if you're telling the truth or is he some type of meta human?
"Tell me a Hydra secret no one else would know, Lucille."
"Yeah, see, I'm not going to do that.""Paul," Davit said.
"Yes sir?"
"It's time to give her a little small taste of what will happen when we say no."
"You got it boss."
The bigger of the two walked up to me, wrapped his big hand around my arms and jerked me up off my feet. I did not make eye contact and stayed stone faced. He kept adding pressure to my arms and I could feel the blood vessels bursting beneath my skin. I didn't scream. Natasha taught me well. He put me back on my feet and walked away. Looking down at my bare arms, they were now bruised.
"Someone taught her well, boss," he said as he walked away.
Before I knew, he back handed me and I was on the floor. I didn't scream or cry. Putting my hand on my face, I turned my face back to look at the three men. Davit stood up from where he sat.
"Paul, I see you need some time with Lucille. Josef, come with me."
Davit and the smaller man exited the room to leave Paul in the room with me. I stood up from where I was to look at this Paul man."Do you take pleasure in beating up women for him?"
"I do what I am told, ma'am."
"Well, do what you have to do then, Paul."
"Very well, ma'am," he said, reared back and smacked me across my face.I wasn't going to make this easy on him. I decided to fight back. Balling up my fist, I reared back and popped him in the nose.
"Very nice, ma'am."
"You're welcome. Your turn."
We exchanged blows for at least thirty minutes and when he realized I wasn't going to give up but I was tired, he stopped.
"Let's take a break, ma'am."
"Good idea," I said trying to catch my breath. "Can I get some water?"
He gave me some water and left me alone. Digging into my bra, I found the small earpiece in the lining and put it in my ear.
"I don't know if you can hear me," I whispered. "but I'm okay. I just don't know if I can take another round of that. Looks like maybe I'm in Chelsea. You should be able to track me now that I have this on. I'm pretty sure he fractured my right arm."
