I waited for the taxi driver on the steps outside.

There were people still lingering, chatting with the Vanderbilt's inside. I was too tired to make up an excuse for my four year disappearance.

I wrapped my arms around myself, wishing I brought the thicker coat to the party.

A large hand was placed on the small of my back.

I quickly turned around and took a step back. My heel missed the step and I went flying back wards.

But then I was pulled into a warm chest, perfectly safe and wrapped in a man's arms.

I looked up and meet a pair of amused blue eyes.

My breath caught as Reid let me go and he put his hands in his pant pockets. He didn't say anything just looked up at the sky.

I also looked up and saw the stars shinning bright. It was beautiful night, despite the cold.

"Beautiful night, right" I said, breaking the silence.

"Not as beautiful as y-" Reid started, but someone shouted his name from behind us.

He turned around and grinned.

Reid looked back at me and his grin became more of a smile.

"It was nice seeing you, Kennedy" he said. "Have a good night."

I nodded and smiled.

The taxi pulled up to the house and I walked toward it.

I looked back and saw an empty step. I sighed and got into the car.

"No kidding! The guy must have been like a man thirsting for water when he saw. He just couldn't help it" said my best friend Alison.

Charlotte's Coffee House was closing as I shoved my apron in my locker in the back room.

All I could think about was Reid.

From his perfect hair to his beautiful eyes, I couldn't focus all day. All I could think about was him.

"I think your a little too in over your head Alison" I said with a sigh. "All he did was catch me when I was falling."

"But what was the reason to why you fell again?"

I gave her a look and walked out of the back with her following.

"It doesn't matter, anyway. I won't see him again until the next big celebration that I'm invited to" I said walking into the chilly night. "Reid will be happily in a relationship and so will I."

I knew I shouldn't kid myself.

Reid isn't known for one and I can't keep mine for more than 2 months.

I unlocked my car and said goodbye to Alison.

I turned the heaters on high and listened to the radio station playing the newest hits.

As I drove on the empty road, I pushed the petal a little more, going over the speed limit.

I hated myself for feeling this way about Reid, again. I told myself that it was just a phase during high school, that I would grow out of it and it wouldn't mean anything.

My heart seemed to have other plans.

I was drawn out of my thinking when I saw red and blue lights flashing behind me.

 I groaned.

I pulled over and waited for the cop car to come to a complete stop. I didn't know they were out this late, especially on this road.

A tall figure walked slowly to the driver side of the car and he tapped on my window.

I rolled it down and looked up into the officers eyes.

"Miss, you were going over the speed limit by 30" the officer said leaning against my window, "Did you know you could've badly inquired others or yourself?"

"No, I didn't think anyone was on this road at this time, that's all. I'm sorry for speeding" I said curling my fingers around the stirring wheel.

The police officer's eyebrows furrowed and he cleared his throat.

"I didn't think it was going to be that easy" He said getting his ticket book out of his pocket.

"Well not everything is as it seems" I mumbled to myself.

"Can I see your license and registration forms?"

I handed them to him and waited for him to finish so I could finally get home.

"Only 22?"

I nodded, confused why he was asking when he had my license in front of him.

I studied him as he was busy. The police officer was at a towering height and he had chocolate eyes and dark hair. He was quite handsome in a mysterious way.

The officer finally finished writing it out and he handed it to me.

"Have a good night officer" I said starting up my car again.

"It's Kyle. Goodnight Miss Parks" the officer said and walked back to his car.

I looked at my ticket and groaned. I've already gotten a ticket this month and one more will affect me more then I needed it to.

I started up my car again and watched my speed the whole way home.

As I pulled into my apartment complex, my phone rang in my center console.

"Hello" I said without checking the ID.

"Kennedy, it's me, Brad."

I got out of the car and I looked at the caller ID. Sure enough, it was him.

"Oh, hi Brad" I said in a surprised voice.

He chuckled and cleared his voice.

"Did you have a good night?"

"Yes, thank you. Did you?" I asked, smiling into the phone.

"It would've been better with you here" Brad said quietly.

I bit my lip as I unlocked my front door. I didn't know what to say.

"Are you okay Brad?"

"Yeah I'm fine. I wanted to ask you something though" he said pausing.

"What is it?"

"My family is having a dinner with some intimidating people next week and you seem to always make things easier" Brad said with a light chuckle. "Would you come as my date to the dinner?"

My smile grew wide and I wanted to jump in place.

"Yes, I would love to" I said, trying not to sound too happy over dinner.

"Okay, I'll pick you up at 7 next Saturday."

"See you then."

I hung up with a grin and rubbed my eyes.

I guess I'm seeing the Vanderbilt's sooner then expected.
