"You're telling me you sewed this yourself, Mirabel?"

"Yep! How do you like it? Is it a good fit?"

"It's better than what any tailor back in the city could do! Look at that flow..."

You spin in the dress given to you, looking down to watch how the flowy light blue flitters in the wind. The bow around your waist was just tight enough to be snug. A fairytale would have you believe this very piece of clothing was crafted by the hands of a magical deity just for you, and in a way... It is.

"Okay okay, you don't have to flatter me! I just wanted to know if you were comfortable, after all." Mirabel pushes her glasses up, clearing her throat to ignore the darkening of her cheeks. The sunlight of a bright morning pours into the little nursery room to illuminate the beautiful shades of blue on the dress with a mystical shine.

"So... I'm finally going to meet your family, Mirabel?"

"Well, we have to wait for my Tío Bruno to talk to them about introducing a stranger to our Encanto. We'll have to hide you until my family comes to accept you. After that, you can live right in our village!"

"What if they don't, Mirabel!? I'll be thrown to the-"

Mirabel presses a finger right to your mouth, "Shh, (Y/N)! Dolores could hear you halfway around the world with that tone. Do you really want her rounding up my family against you?"

Your silence was more than enough to convince her of your compliance.

"Now come on, let's just make it out of the Casíta without anyone seeing you." Her hand slowly backs away from your face, taking your hand to walk out the door. The hinges creak open as Mirabel pulls it back to try and escape without a single Madrigal the wiser. However, a tall figure dressed in yellow stares down at the two with uncertain brown eyes. "She knows..." You cower behind Mirabel in a feeble attempt to avoid the woman's gaze.

"I do know." She spoke, taking a step back from the duo.

"Wait, Dolores! You can't tell anyone about her!"

"I said I know," Dolores sighs, "I heard all of you last night. (Y/N) isn't from here, but... I can't risk everyone throwing her out and leading whatever dangerous thing is out there to our home. So-" She pauses, looking around as if anyone could catch her, and leans down to whisper, "If you absolutely do NOT show her to anyone else for now, I will keep this between us. Not our family, not the village people, not a soul. While Tío Bruno talks to the family, get to a spot outside where no one can see you two."

"Dolores... What about my chores?" Mirabel tilts her head.

"I'll cover for you, but just this once." Dolores winks, turning away and running off down the stairs.

"Your cousin is a lot nicer than you made her seem to be!" (Y/N) giggles, earning a playful snort from the girl in green glasses.

"You're so lucky she didn't go off and reveal you to everyone else! Now follow me, I know where we're going today...

Now, a flower patch in the middle of the Encanto's wilderness is a welcome sight, but these blossoms are a lot different than the ones that adorn the Casíta's walls. These are rounded, symmetrical... Perfect.

"This was Isabella's little hiding spot whenever Mariano would come to town and Abuela wasn't around to watch her. Back when she had to be the perfect one of the family..."

"But now she's a lot more expressive, isn't she?" (Y/N) inquires, picking up a soft blue flower and inspecting it.

"Mhm! Now that she ended up not marrying him, she doesn't come here any more! We can just hide out here until Tío Bruno comes back to tell us we can go home." Her body collapses right into the bed of petals, almost swimming in the soft bed crafted by nature. She relaxes with a sigh of bliss, closing her eyes and soaking in the sunlight that broke through the leaves of the trees. It's so easy to sleep that she could barely feel the subtle tickle of stems hitting her hair and face.

(Y/N), more curious than she is mischievous, watches the flowers float right onto her face and gently land. Even if Mirabel doesn't stir from her nap, the glow of the sun kissing her face is all too warm. God, this moment needs to be framed... For now, keeping it in your heart will keep it safe.

"(Y/N)... You're staring~" Mirabel opens one of her eyes to look at the beautiful lady beside her.

"What- I thought you were asleep!"

"I was, until you started making it rain with plants!" She sits up from the flower bed, throwing some of what was on her face at (Y/N).

"That's it, Mira! It's personal now!"

The two shove and play fight in the field, rolling along the colors on the ground below them. It didn't matter now what the Madrigals would think of someone new in the Encanto, or what dangers lay beyond the mountain. All that matters right now is shoving each other into the dirt and seeing who could get the most grass stains on the other.
