Twenty Years Later
Anya's P.O.V
I woke up to an empty bed, again. The room was quite, and the sheets beside me are cold. I am getting fed up of this! The war between the Forest Fire and Crescent Moon packs are taking too much. Those evil creatures! They continue attempting to steal our territory, our people, our everything! They have not even hesitated in killing some of us, and it is getting to James. I can see it everyday he gets more and more distant from me. I think it means we are loosing.
This war has been ongoing since before I was born, sometimes there would be times of peace, but they rarely last longer than a month. And it's beginning to take its toll on both myself and James. I drag myself away from the cold bed and begin my search for James in his office. I know when he's stressed, that's the first place he will go. I open the door to see him slumped over his desk, riffling around stacks of paperwork. He knocked a pile over, before looking up at me.
He sees me and sighs, "I didn't want to wake you."
I smile and walk towards him, sitting in his lap, "Then you should have stayed in bed." I kiss him lightly as he winds his hands around my waist. He starts to deepen the kiss when someone clears their throat from the door. I blush and quickly break away from the kiss, turning to see James's dad, Brett at the door, with a smirk on his face.
He chuckled, "Sorry to interrupt, but Anya, would you mind leaving James and I to talk for a moment?" I nodded, quickly leaving them be and returned to the bedroom to get dressed.
I don't know why, but I've always been a little weary of Brett, even though he's been nothing but nice to me ever since James brought me here. I can't help but smile at the thought of my first encounter with him. James and I had been dating for three months, and I was falling head over heals in love with him. He brought me home to meet his father and mother, and to say I was nervous, well let's call it as big of an understatement, as calling a tsunami a small wave.
But they just accepted me straight away, which at the time was confusing, especially because of the age gap, and well the fact that I had run away from home. Now I understand why though, James and I are mates. He will always love me and I will always love him. We were designed for each other. The idea of loosing him is heart breaking, that's why I want so badly to become a wolf, but he refuses. He wouldn't even mark me, for fear of changing me. He says it's because not all people who are bitten, survive the bite, but I'd have to, I'm his mate! Right?
I started to riffle through his chest of drawers, looking for a t-shirt to wear - I have plenty, I just prefer to wear his - when I found a small box in the bottom corner. My hands started to tremble a little as I picked it up. I know I shouldn't be going through his things, but we've been together for three years now, he . . . he couldn't be about to propose! Could he?
I decided to place the box back in the drawers, it could be nothing, or it could be a ring. Either way I would wait for him to give it to me. I grabbed a random top, and put on running shorts and runners, deciding I needed to do some more training. James has been training me to fight since he told me about werewolves, he wants me to be prepared, especially since the war seems to only be getting worse. I went to the kitchen first, to grab a bottle of water from the fridge and ran into Luke, James's Beta.
I smiled, "Hey Luke, whatcha up to?"
He shrugged, "Nothing much, you?"
I gestured behind me, "I'm gonna hit the gym. You wanna join me?"
He nodded, "As long as you don't mind getting your ass kicked!"
I laughed, "Believe it or not, I am getting better."
