"Mack, you've got some hair in your mouth."
Not even bothering to look up from the book she was reading, Mack flicked the few strands of sandy hair away from her mouth and propped her cheek on the back of her right hand. Akari, the busy blonde's friend, rolled her eyes and went to sit beside her.
"Come on, take a break! You've been studying your notes since last week, you practically memorized the whole thing! You're going to do fine on your test, no one's going to score higher than you—I just know it." The brunette grinned, nudging the girl next to her playfully. Akari lifted her arms, aiming to grab the pile of notes in front of her best friend when a hand slapped hers away. She yelped.
"Mack—"
"No! Don't touch them! Akari, you don't understand." Mack let out a distressed sigh. Her arms shot up as she pushed her hair back, making it messier than it was before. "Really, you don't. I literally can't remember anything that I read just now, let alone last week! I'm going to fail the test! I just know it! Fail!"
Akari shook her head, rubbing her nape as she watched her best friend panic. What could she possibly do to calm her down?
"It's because you're worried about it too much, Mack! Like honestly, when was even the last time you ate a proper meal? How about breakfast, have you even eaten breakfast yet?" The brunette asked with her eyebrows furrowed together. She stared at Mack with worry when she flinched at the question that was thrown at her, watching as Mack's lips pulled into a straight line, her eyes looking away guiltily.
"No way...you haven't eaten yet?"
"Well, I might have...forgotten to? Wait, no. I meant to say, after I finish reviewing I would immediately cook myself some, er, noodles?"
"In the morning?" Akari pressed, voice dripping with sarcasm with a matching 'I don't buy that one even for a second' face.
Mack rose a single brow. "What, who says you can't?" She asked.
Ignoring her last statement, Akari sighed. "Y'know what? How about this. Before I go to work, let's eat breakfast together. See, I haven't eaten yet, too. Might as well eat together, right? For company." She suggested, grinning when Mack was contemplating, deciding whether to say yes or no. Well, not like she would give the blonde any other choice, anyway.
"Uh, I'm not quite sure. Can't really get sick before the test, am I right?" Mack dragged on, sounding a bit skeptical, but couldn't stealthily hide the teasing smile growing on her face. Akari snickered, pinching the girl's cheek and shaking it lightly.
"You little rascal. You don't have to worry, you're not eating any of my food. I think Papa's Pancakeria is a pretty good place to dine, don't you think so, too?"
At the mention of the food establishment, Mack couldn't keep down the pink that dusted her cheeks slightly. Her mind just seemed to automatically think of a particular brown-haired worker, and her mood lifted just a little bit. Akari definitely noticed the small change, and a big goofy grin stretched across her lips.
"You're being too obvious, Mack. Tone it down, kid!" The brunette poked, laughing when Mack turned to look at her, pouting with her eyebrows furrowed.
"Oh shut up, Akari."
Akari huffed out one last snicker, before inhaling deeply. When she finally composed herself, she smiled at Mack and ruffled her hair. "Just kidding with 'ya. Come on, don't look at me like that! Haha, how about we just get going, hmm? We don't have all day."
Mack grumbled something under her breath that wasn't very comprehensible, but Akari was still able to catch a mumbled, "fine" and that was enough for her to sling her arm around the girl's shoulder and lead her to the best flapjack's in town.

With Akari swiftly driving her motorbike along the steep road of Maple Mountain, the ride towards Papa's Pancakeria didn't take long. In a couple of minutes, the pair arrived and stopped in front of the building.
Mack was the first to hop down, as Akari had to park her bike first. When all was settled, they both walked in together. The ringing of the bell chimes echoing across the room the moment they pushed the doors open.
"Akari, Mack!"
An all too familiar voice tickled Mack's ears, making her bite her lips to restrain the big awkward smile trying to etch on.
"Good morning, welcome! What can I get for you?" Cooper shot one of his dazzling smiles, and Mack swore that she could feel a whole swarm of butterflies fluttering in her stomach. Her mouth opened and closed for a while, trying to speak up but no voice was coming out of her.
Realizing that Mack wasn't really in her best condition right now, Akari gently tugged on her arm to pull her back, giving it a light pinch at the same time.
"Ack—"
"Hey, Cooper. Morning," Akari grinned, ignoring the small yelp coming from the blonde behind her, "the usual please."
Taking out a small notebook and a pencil, Cooper swiftly wrote the order down. With a nod, he looked back up from the notebook and turned his attention to Mack, noticing she turned a tad bit red when they locked eye contact. "And for you, Mack?"
The sandy blonde girl let out a squeak, surprising the pair near her.
"Er, uh, well I— I'll just, um...can I just have a glass of water?"
A nudge to her sides made Mack take a sharp breath, making her lose her footing. "Haha, kidding. I'm just kidding," she gave out a breathy laugh, eyebrows furrowing as she eyed Akari from the corner of her eyes.
"I'll have two chocolate chip pancakes with three butters, whip cream, maple syrup and chocolate chips. Oh, and a large decaf with milk, please. Er, thank you."
"Alright, got it. Your orders will be brought to you in a while. While waiting, you guys can go sit over there." Cooper pointed at a table near the window. Akari nodded, thanking the brown-haired boy before walking towards the area. Mack prompted with a closed mouth smile and quickly followed her friend.

AN:
Hello! It's me, Evee! Welcome to my new, and first-ever story here in Wattpad! Just to clear things out, this will be a self-insert story. And the pairings will be OC x OC.The purpose of this chapter is to introduce my oc and main character of the story, Mack. You'll probably meet my second OC in a while, so hopefully, you stay tuned for that.
I apologise if there are spelling and grammatical errors in this and future chapters of the story. English isn't my first language, but I try my best to make it understandable. If there are things that you think that I should do to improve the story, or if you have any criticism, I'd be very glad to hear them, hehe.
But anyway, this author's note is getting too long, so I'll just cut this here. Thank you so so much for reading and I'll see you in the next chapter.
Byee!!
