"Reckless?.. Maybe, but I'm not suicidal," his boss softly chuckled in response, casting a brief glance in his direction before returning his gaze to the large window that showcased a sunset over the beautiful city below.
Death couldn't approve of such a frivolous attitude towards this man's life. Since he entered this debt collection and smuggling organization... a "mafia" he called it. It's definitely one way to put it. So, after entering this group about a year ago (no one here asks for your past, please), Death received: a codename, his duties and responsibilities, a very nice income, and in addition – surprisingly warm fellowship, new friends and – unexpectedly, a deep love for his boss, called Life.
He was just.. very different? Who could ever expect a mafia boss to be so.. kind and nice (well, to a degree). Life is always trying to minimize losses on both sides in a conflict, thoughtful and caring for his subordinates, a smart and strong leader of the company, and with such a beautiful body- Uh, I'm sorry, it seems I got distracted a bit...
Thus, Death did his best, using his past experience, his bright mind and excellent command of throwing weapons to become Life's right hand as soon as possible, just to be closer to him.
And now they were alone in Life's office after a long and very difficult day that included sudden calls for help from their partners on the other side of the city, police intervention, shooting with casualties and a lot of negotiations to cover up this matter. Life looked tired and sad, sitting at the edge of his table, staring unseeingly at the city in front of him.
Death clenched his fists and tried to calm his breath, but his intense concern could be heard in his voice.
"But you could die today!"
Life looked at him once more, with some kind of amazement, then smiled softly and sadly, looking away from his deputy, standing next to him.
"I don't think so. It's just- Uhh, how to explain that... Your existence seems much less important and valuable when there's no one who really cares about you," Life suddenly seemed so lonely and vulnerable but just as sudden as these feelings appeared, they were quick to be masked under a bright cheery smile. "It's okay! You don't have to worry about that. I'll be fine and everything will be fine..."
His smile looked so fake right now and Death was hit by the immense lonesomeness he saw in Life's green eyes and he asked himself again, how, with all these good qualities, his boss managed to stay single. He needed to say something and he did.
"But I care about you!" his cheeks went red but gaze was confident and insistent.
Life raised his eyes at Death in surprise. In a second he laughed much more sincerely and brightly, "Of course you should! I'm your boss after all. Your income depends directly on me," he jokingly pointed at himself and at Death a few times.
"Not in that sense!" Death caught and squeezed his wrist. He will not allow this to be turned into a mere joke, not after all these months of unrequited love.
Life instantly became serious and very calm.
"In what sense, then?" he asked slowly.
Death's heart was pounding somewhere behind his ears, so loudly that not one coherent thought could be heard. So he just leaned forward, bending down to match Life's height. There were a couple of inches left to Life's lips when Death heard a familiar sound of a fuse being pulled. He froze looking down to see a gun that Life held with his free hand, pressed to his chest in obvious menace.
"I may shoot," Life's voice was low and absolutely emotionless.
"One's existence seems less important without a loved one, huh?" Death had only two options. He could move away and never have this chance back. Or he could move forward and have it all – or lose it all. He chuckled ironically to himself – is there really a choice?
"Yes, you can," cautiously he leaned down, touching these desired lips that turned out to be oh so soft and warm in a slow passionate kiss.
Seconds later, to Death's utter relief and joy, Life answered to his kiss, hugging Death with both hands. Their kisses became deeper and more sensual with each and every minute lasting; breathing became heavy and ragged. Life was practically lying on the table, till his incautious movement made a stack of books and papers fall onto the carpet with a heavy thump.
The abrupt sound brought Life back to his senses.
"No, this is absolutely inappropriate," he pushed Death away and jumped off the table, heading to the door.
"Life, wait! Please! I- I didn't mean anything disrespectful, just give me a chance to-"
The mafia boss walked up to the door and shut then locked it. Silently he came to the sofa, standing by one of the walls, sat on it and patted next to him for Death to sit as well.
"I've never used it THIS way, but since I can sleep on it..." he stopped and stared at Death who sat nearby gazing at him back nervously and confused.
"Ah damn!!" Life grabbed Death by the collar and pulled him over, falling on his back at the same time, so Death suddenly found himself lying on him, in between these thighs he was dreaming of so many times.
Life pulled him a little bit closer and whispered in his red and steaming ear.
"If you do nothing now, I'll fuck you myself, got that?"
