A Yeong got ready with more care today than she usually did. She braided her hair, and put on some perfume as well, something she never does at home. She looked in the mirror to find her reflection staring back at her. What was she doing?
She put back the lipstick she had picked up and rubbed some lip balm on her lips instead. It wasn't like it was a date! He was just coming over to see her work, to confirm that she wasn't lying and wasn't some crazy stalker as he had first thought her to be
Frankly though, anyone would have thought she was crazy with the explanations she had given. At least, he had not called the police on her, she thought as she got up and finished dressing in a comfortable light sweater and pants.
She walked to the conservatory at the back of her house, which was a converted space for her workshop. It was gloriously sunny today, though there was still quite a chill in the air. She hugged her arms around herself as she unlocked a door at the end of the room, one which was kept away from prying eyes.
It held all the sculptures she had made over the years of Kang Tae Hyun's face...every last one of them. Including her first piece, made more than 20 years ago. All of them had a date carved at its bottom.
She was pulled out of her thoughts as she heard a car get into her driveway. She closed the room and went to open the main door.
....
Kang Tae Hyun got down from his car and took a deep breath of the fresh morning air. This place was very peaceful with half of the house surrounded by a meadow in the front. He let out a huge yawn as he locked his car and started walking up the cobbed path leading to a quaint but very beautiful house
Lats night he had played with his niece till well past midnight and then had hardly slept a wink with thoughts of seeing A Yeong's work today. He ran a hand through his short hair and adjusted his morning blazer as the door in front of him opened and A Yeong stepped out, looking fresh and beautiful in the morning sun
"I hope you didn't have trouble finding the place?" she asked softly, as Tae Hyun stared at her for a few seconds before clearing his throat "Uh. No...it wasn't difficult at all. Plus, GPS helped" he said as she opened the door wider, gesturing him inside.
He took his shoes off and wore the slippers kept at the entrace, before walking into her house.
"You have a beautiful home, very peaceful" he said, as he looked around awkwardly, both trying to gauge each other.
"Would you like some coffee before we see the sculptures?" A Yeong asked, as he nodded "Coffee sounds good. Just black please" he said as she nodded and went to the kitchen
"Please make yourself comfortable" A Yeong called out, as she peeked out from the kitchen "Thanks, I will" Tae Hyun said as he walked around the spacious living room and went to sit on the comfortable looking armchair.
Her place was simple, but very stylish. Very different from his own space, but comfortable and cosy. He saw a huge bookshelf at the end of one room, filled with books, but also many old vinyl records stacked on top of each other.
He got up to check those, as A Yeong came out with 2 steaming cups of coffee.
"Do you like jazz?" he asked her as he admired her collection of old favourites.
"Yes, I listen to it while I work" she said as he smiled and took the offered cup of coffee
"You have a lot of books too" he said gesturing to the groaning shelfs filled with books on various topics from politics to Mythology "Ah, yes...I love to read" she said as she ran a fond finger along the spines of the books.
