Mariner and Boimler both stared up at the popcorn ceiling from their now shared king size bed. Boimler took the left side, reluctantly, and Mariner took the right side. Their split sides look more like the waning gibbous phase of the moon with Mariner taking up the entire right side and most of the left. Boimler couldn't lie, he did mind but he was kind of used to it at this point. The old lower decks bunks were barely the size of a single bed and after constantly falling off the top bunk Boimler was thankful the bed was elevated more than 5 feet.

"I never understood why they call it Pillow talk." Mariner suddenly spoke, disturbing the peaceful silence.

"Because we're laying on pillows, and we're talking." Boimler replied with nothing short of annoyance in his voice.

"Okay smart-ass." Mariner hissed back.

Boimler rolled over so his backside was facing Mariner, attempting to get some actual sleep.

"What does pillow talk even mean?" Mariner asked herself. Boimler felt his eyes roll back again, if he rolled his eyes more than he did on the average day they'd probably get stuck like that.

"Can you shut up? Some of us would like to wake up rested." Boimler requested.

Mariner tsk'd before rolling over so the two were now back to back.

"Sleep is for the weak." Mariner shrugged.

"You only say that because you can survive off of 3 hours of sleep. I need my beauty sleep." Boimler groaned.

Mariner frowned and rolled back over to face Boimler, or his backside.

"Aw, boims. You're beautiful no matter how
much sleep you get." She gently patted his shoulder.

"Really?" Boimler took the compliment genuinely before remembering he was annoyed with Mariner, "I mean what? Beauty sleep is an expression, I don't think sleeping actually makes you beautiful."

"Aw, you're just flustered." Mariner wiggled her eyebrows, Boimler could almost hear the snark radiating off of her.

"Whatever, good pillow talk." Boimler smiled gently to himself.

"Goodnight Brad."

"Goodnight Beckett."
