“I want you all to work together and honestly on this event," Miss. Wann completed her announcement with that.

It was that time of the year when each student was supposed to participate as a talent or as a talent hunter. I'll go with the latter one. Why? Because what are you going to do when you've got no talent to show off?

I'm just going to take the backstage labor tasks. I'm good at lifting and shifting things at least. I'm also good at planning and management too, but I just can't cope up with the planning and management team. Especially the “so-called” leaders of the teams, Cady and Mark. One who talks too much and another one who wants perfection all the time. Well, I can't badmouth my own friends more than that.

"Now, tell me, why can't you join our team??" Cady complained pouting.

"Simple. I can't tolerate you two." I replied smiling.

"So you can tolerate us as friends, but not as team leaders? Does that make sense to you, idiot?" Cady scowled. “Just join us. Come on.”

"No".

“Don’t tell me you’re going to participate as a talent and that’s why you’re not joining the team.”

Her words made me laugh.

“What? See if that’s the case, then you don’t have to worry. This year, we can both participate and work as a volunteer.”

“Love the way your brain works. But no, I’ve no talent and neither I’m going to join you two and your team. Besides, this event also needs labors to make the stage, move things up and down and blah-blah. I think I’m a fit.” I said, making a superman posture with my arms.

“Why????? I’m not requesting you or begging you. I’m just very politely pressuring you. Is that too much to ask, Derek?”

“No”.

"Yes. That's what I want to hear. Not your n-" She trailed off, seeing someone behind me.

I looked around. It was her.

"Hey!" She said, walking towards us.

"Hey Shaelyn. Welcome to the team.” Cady shifted on her seat, making room for her to sit.

“Thanks.” She said, making herself comfortable on the seat. Then she turned to me and flashed a big toothy smile. “Hey.”

Did she just smile?? While looking at me?? What’s wrong with my heart rate?? I need to reply. What should I reply??

I managed a nod. Say something idiot!
