It started on a normal Friday night. Acelyn was in her room, listening to music, drawing. She glanced at the reference picture she was using. Another line drawn- part of the wolf's hind leg. She was so close to finishing the drawing she had been working on for days. All she had left was 3 more legs. Not that much, looking at what she had done.
A sudden burning pain on her wrist made Acelyn jump. She examined her wrist: nothing. As soon as she put her hand down the pain seemed to travel, right to her chest.
"Ah!" She cried out. Was she having a heart attack?! No, she was too young at 11 years old. Immediately, she jumped up and stormed into her bathroom. When she she started at her reflection in the mirror, nothing was out of the ordinary.
You know, until she blinked and her eyes weren't green. The bright blue eyes that stared back at her weren't hers. Or... Were they?
Acelyn blinked again- maybe she was imagining it. But no, her eyes were still blue. But what really terrified her was the faint image of a wolf standing beside her.
Acelyn whipped around. There it was, the wolf, I mean. It was beautiful: Luscious black fur, piercing blue eyes. It was, from head to tale, about 5 feet long, and its head was around the height of Acelyn's nose- around 4 feet 11 inches.
The wolf stared at Acelyn; Acelyn stared at the wolf.
For about 10 minutes they stared, until Acelyn hesitantly reached out a hand. The wolf nuzzled its nose to Acelyn's hand.
No, she thought, this isn't real. It couldn't be, right?
Yet the wolf looked and felt so real.
So Acelyn flexed her fingers. Fur ruffled beneath them. Breathing in a sharp breath, Acelyn slowly crouched.
As if on cue, the wolf dropped by her and lay. Placing his head on Acelyn's lap, the wolf closed its eyes. "Are you real? Am I dreaming?" Acelyn thought aloud.
No, I'm real.
The words snapped her out of her thoughts. It was in her mind, she hasn't heard them with her ears.
Heart pundimg, she said, "What are you?"
I am Sylyn. I am your Protector.
Acelyn gasped. She had a Protector? No, that's not right, because only 1 in a million people had Protectors. What were the odds that she would be that person? Exactly, 1 in 1,000,000.
You seem shocked, young Acelyn. Surely, you must believe me?
Acelyn shakily nodded. "Why are my eyes blue?"
Everyone who has a Protector eyes' change. Your eyes are now blue because my eyes are blue. I am the only Wolf Protector with blue eyes. This way, other Protectors know you are mine.
Oh, Acelyn thought. "Can we communicate telepathically?" She asked.
Try.
Can you hear me?
Yes.
Acelyn's bedroom door creaked open. "Ace? You okay?" It was Acelyn's mother.
"Yeah!" Acelyn shouted.
And now, child, I must go. I will be back soon.
And Sylyn was gone.
