Acelyn stood up and straightened her shorts.
She walked out of her bathroom to face her mother. "Mom? Are you—"
Acelyn, I'm in your soul.
Acelyn yelped. "Ace? What's wrong?"
Acelyn shook her head. "I'm fine."
Sylyn! I thought you were gone! How did you get in there?!
When I'm not visible, I'm in your soul.
"Acelyn!"
"Huh?!"
"What has gotten into you?" Her mom, Jessica, said.
"I—I don't know... Sorry, I don't feel very good," Acelyn lied.
Jessica sighed. "Okay, then. Dinner will be ready in about an hour. Come down if you want to."
Acelyn nodded. Jessica shut the door. Acelyn leaned against the door and slid down it until she was sitting on the floor.
She felt a slight pressure on her chest.
And there was Sylyn.
Sorry. It'll take you a while to get used to that.
"Yeah, it will!" Acelyn exclaimed.
Acelyn, please, keep your voice down!
"Why? My moms gonna figure out about us anyway!"
Yes, but we need to make sure she's ready!
And how do you suppose we do that?
I don't know. Just give her time.
Acleyn sighed. Suddenly her phone started ringing, blaring Black Veil Brides' Let Shadows Die.
She answered it. "Hello?" She sighed.
Heavy breathing was heard. "Hello!" She shouted.
More breathing. She hung up. "Idiots...," she mumbled.
It rang again. "What could you possibly want?!" Acelyn screamed into the phone.
A deep cackle emitted from the phone and nearly split Acelyn's eardrum.
So, she did what any sensible, Italian-speaking girl would do: told them that the boy ate a book.
"La ragazzo mangia un libro!" She said and hung up. That'll show 'em!
Those boys are annoying morons...
You know who they are?!
Uh, yes. The one that was breathing through the phone is Kevin Manhart. His friend is Josh Stamey.
Why didn't ya tell me?
You didn't ask?
Sighing, Acelyn stood up and walked to her bed. She plopped down on it.
Sylyn followed slowly. He circled around for a few times before laying down. Acelyn rolled her eyes.
What?
Nothing, nothing.
"Whatever," said Sylyn.
Acelyn goggled at the wolf. "You can talk out loud?!"
Sylyn lightly nodded his furry head.
"You wanna go out in the woods?"
Another nod from Sylyn.
"Well, then, let me get dressed," Acelyn said. Sylyn turned away. At least he's polite, Acelyn thought.
So she pulled on a dark blue long-sleeve T-Shirt and some skinny jeans. Grabbing her combat/hiking/hunting boots, she called to Sylyn, "You can turn around."
Sylyn did.
Acelyn locked her door and slid the window open, just enough that she could slide out.
Sylyn followed suit, and together they trekked until they got about a mile deep.
Then Acelyn sat on a big rock to rest.
They were talking out loud about nothing when a big, red fox Protector trotted out from behind a tree and called out to Sylyn, "Hey,buddy! Who ya got there?"
