the beginning of it all

I had a feeling about the trip, a good feeling. It was my first time travelling alone and although I didn't truly know what it would entail, I had a feeling it would change my life.

It was an exchange, a language exchange. I had been learning French for years, I just needed to master it and my parents and I agreed that a French exchange trip would be the perfect way. I was sixteen at the time so travelling alone to a foreign country was a big deal and believe me my parents made sure that I knew that. I know they are just being protective of me, but it was constant.

"don't talk to strangers"

"don't give out your personal information"

"don't get into any random cars"

It was all the basics, the stuff that was drilled into our heads every term by someone giving that same old 'stranger danger' talk, I knew all of those things. However, I listened anyway, I knew it would make them feel better about me going.

I woke up that morning and I couldn't believe that it was the day , the day of a new chapter in my life. Okay maybe I was being a little overdramatic, it was only a six week trip. How much could have really happened in six weeks right?
