Chapter Fourteen: No Guards

Nathaniel's POV
I checked my suit in the mirror. The dark blue-grey contradicting my pale skin. I finished tightening my tie and nodded in approval.

Someone close I heard Amber's soft laugh. The sound sent me spiraling into a memory.

(Amber is 7 and Nathaniel is 9)

"NatNat!" Amber screamed laughing and running from my mud covered hands. Her pale blue dress swayed with her steps. Her tangle of brown hair flying behind her.

I could have caught her quickly with my super speed but I liked chasing her. Plus papa says no magic in front of her. He also says she's mine, that one day I'll marry her. I smiled at the thought.

Suddenly Amber's scream sounded through the yard. I looked around fear attacking me. I spotted her sitting on the ground and raced over as fast as my legs would carry me. I reached her and fell to my knee beside her.

"What's wrong little dove?" I asked pushing down my fear so I didn't freak her out.

She looked up at me with tears streaming down her pink cheeks. She looked down at her dress pulling it above her knee revealing a tiny cut, maybe an inch long. "I-I fell."

I smiled and looked around making sure no adults were out then looked at Amber, "Can you keep a secret?" She nodded and I waved my hand over her cut knee. It healed before our eyes.

Amber's eyes lite up with wonder as she looked between me and her knee. After a moment she flung herself into my arms and kissed me, it was the first time she ever done it. She hugged me tight. "Thank you so much NatNat!"

I shook my head shaking away the memory. Those days are gone. Walking out the bedroom door I saw Zeke and Aries waiting on me. The nodded and flanked me when I was further out the door.

Down the hall I heard a door open and there stood Amber. Her hair pulled in a high pony tail. She had on black tank top with a pink skull and black shorts with silver studs covering the pockets.

I knew I was staring but I couldn't seem to pull my eyes away from her beautiful body. Her laughter brought me from my daze. I looked up as she bent over with laughter.

"That," she gestured to me, "is not gonna happen." She looked behind me, "And they can not come to school."

Aries stepped forward and looked sternly at her crossing his arms, "No offense Ms. Elise but he goes no where without us."

She looked at him and got that look in her eyes, the look that said move or you die. I knew it all to well.

"Back down Aries." I said stepping forward and putting my hand on his shoulder.

"But," He started but the look I shot him shut him up quickly.

Amber smiled and bounced around Aries grabbing my hand leading me back to my room. She went in my closet skipping. She ruffled through my suits mumbling "damn", "who needs this many suits" and what the fuck Nathaniel?" I chuckled and she shot me a glare coming out of my closet with her hands on her hips. She sighed rolling her shoulders, "Ok I guess you'll have to use something. Then I'll take you shopping after school and show you what teens where."

She looked at me again and walked off. I followed behind her, past our shared bathroom, and into her room. It was messy and dark and totally Amber. I smiled, Amber had been this way since she spotted a girl in all black with a neon green Mohawk. The next day we had all went out and got her loads of dark clothes and green hair dye, she was only aloud streaks back then.
