The man sat down on the chair across from the bed at Odna's desk and kept looking at me.
„You have been found unconscious on the street, since my daughter was concerned she'd rather have you here. I apologize if that's not alright with you..."
„No, I... It's fine. Thank you for not just leaving me on my own."
With my headache I had to close my eyes for a moment. The situation was slightly overwhelming, but I wasn't certain if it was for the better or the worse. Surely I wouldn't have been able to take care of myself in the state I was in that moment, yet at the same time I wouldn't have wanted to be a bother to anybody. The man who turned out to be Odna's father introduced himself as Alexander and that he was already somewhat familiar about who I was thanks to her. That surely made it quite easier. Again I looked at my phone as he seemed to notice.
„We have already contacted your father. He assumed you had a sleepover, Odna didn't mean to concern him."
After blinking in surprise I nodded thankfully.
„I should probably leave soon anyways, I don't wanna bother for too long."
„You do not bother, but of course, if you decide so you may return home."
He got up and put the chair back to where it belonged as he kept looking at me.
„In case you need anything, you may help yourself. We don't bite."
He smiled a little at me which made me almost automatically do the same as he slowly left the room. I took a breath and managed to get up on my feet to open the window as I leaned onto the pane and inhaled the fresh air. The view was so different from my room, then again, she lived closer to the city than the actual school. Just a few minutes later there was a gentle knock before a little girl peeked inside. She had two ponytails on each side and big eyes that curiously looked towards me. For a moment then she looked across the hallway before she came in and closed the door, turning back to me.
„You're Sick?"
As I answered her with a little nod she sat down on the bed and kept looking at me.
„Me too. I have it in my mind tho, so it's not physical or anything you can see. Papi says it's okay tho, we're all different. I didn't think Odna would get a sick girlfriend tho!"
Suddenly I stared at her as I was blushing.
„I- We're not- I'm not her girlfriend."
„Yet."
She grinned at me, which made me look away in embarrassment. As she was about to go on, Odna came into the room and told the girl to leave her room as she simply laughed, yet did as she was told. Me and Odna were looking each other in the eyes for a moment before she closed the door and came to me, asking me if I was doing alright as I simply nodded again. Yet suddenly I became rather uncomfortable.
„Did you... hurt him?"
Odna stared at me and seemed somewhat sarcastic.
„No, I let him leave to hurt more people, of course I hurt him."
„But, that's..."
I saw her becoming quite upset as she turned away and put her bag down on the chair. As I tried to explain myself she turned back to me and put her finger on my mouth, staring me right into the eyes.
„You are out of your mind if you have any sympathy for what that bastard did to you, Scyaram. I don't think I need your judgement for killing that dude when he was obviously trying to do something unforgivable to you. Don't take this personal now, but what could you have possibly done to avoid the situation?"
There was nothing I could respond. I simply became rather worried as I backed away a bit when she kept coming closer to me, yet the wall stopped me from escaping. Her stare was somewhat threatening towards me.
„Let me put it in perspective to you. If were fighting for my life, would you unplug my life support or try to save me?"
I was tearing up at that point.
„That's- I can't decide that-"
„If I am in a coma you would have to. So, what would you do?"
She kept repeating the question until I was starting to cry and held my hands in front of my face.
„I'd save you! Even if you wouldn't want that. There, are you happy now?? This is a completely different situation, Odna!"
„Oh is it? You were unconscious. That person was threatening your life. I could've either left you to your fate or saved you. Even if you'd have been awake, my mind wouldn't have changed. He was gonna hurt you, others as well. He deserved this."
She gently took my hands away and held onto my face.
„Now... aren't you glad you're still alive, Sweetheart?"
A moment of silence filled the room as my tears kept rolling down my cheeks. After I turned off my alarm I couldn't help myself but to hug her as she held me into her arms as well. Of course I was thankful. The fact that she wouldn't have left me alone in a situation where I would be truly helpless made me feel quite important. Slowly I began to realize that she was truly in the right as I kept holding onto her tightly. At some point Odna then began to chuckle.
„Imagine the police trying to find the body. Hilarious."
I looked at her rather concerned as she rolled her eyes a little and smiled.
„It was a joke, Scyaram. You need to stop taking things so seriously."
