Summary: Having babysat Carl as a teenager but as you get older, Rick finds it hard to ignore how stunning you’ve gotten

It had been a long time since you’d been Carl’s babysitter but that didn’t change that fact that Rick was only really capable of seeing you that way.

…Or so he thought.

Back in those days, you couldn’t have been more than seventeen, watching Carl as an infant when Lori needed a break and he was working a long shift.

They really needed you to help pick up the slack and you were good at it. He saw you as part of the family at that time, but that had changed, of course it had.

The world had changed and you weren’t just some kid anymore. You were a necessary, important part of the group, and you were also the only tie he had to the life he longed for.

With Lori gone, he couldn’t help but gravitate toward you.

It didn’t hurt that you had grown up quite a bit in the last several years and you weren’t just some kid anymore.

You cared about his family, helping out with Carl and Judith more than you ever had before, practically raising her when he wasn’t around and always making sure they were safe.

It was the sort of helping hand he needed, but there was also something more. Something that he couldn’t just keep ignoring, even if he wanted to.

There was no amount of burying that he could do that would matter. The fact was that he found himself beyond interested in you, in what he had come to recognize as a romantic sense.

He didn’t like it, but that was just what it was.

Pretending it wasn’t hadn’t done him any good thus far and it wasn’t going to. He knew that but now the question was what was he supposed to do about it.

If he confronted you and told you the truth, there would be no telling how you would react. If you didn’t feel the same, you would likely never be able to trust him again, thinking that he’s some kind of creep.

Of course, Rick knew that he had never felt that way toward you before recently, and he also knew that would be hard to believe from where  you were standing, but the world hadn’t given him any other choice.

If he didn’t tell you the truth, he knew that he would regret it for as long as he lived.

Whether it was hard or not, whether you understood or not, he wasn’t going to be able to sleep until he told you the truth about what he’d been feeling lately.
