Link and Synfini gasped.
This room was dark and utterly destroyed, even worse so than the zombie-infested one from before.
Cracks stretched through the floor and along the walls. Rubble completely littered the floor. Everywhere they looked, there was destruction.
From the ceiling, three silk ribbons hung down, each holding a golden Lokomo Crest - Link assumed that they used to form some sort of pattern before all of this...mess... caused everything to come apart.
But, in the middle of the room...
There was a giant monster erupting from the earth.
It was made of boulders and took the shape of a dragon - or, the upper half of one, anyway. Cracks in between the rocks gave an appearance of hollow eyes, and directly in the middle of its forehead was a huge red gem."What IS that!?" Synfini shouted, "Has it been here all along!?"
No, Link shook his head. This had to be the work of Syda, undoubtedly.
The creature raised its wings - Link defensively stood in front of Synfini and took out his sword - and its wings came crashing down into the floor.
BOOOOM!"AGGGHHHHHH!"
The room shook violently. Immediately, Link and Synfini fell to the ground. A shockwave surged through the room - the noise was loud, it was painful, even when they covered their ears, the ringing wouldn't go away...Despite the chaos, Link opened an eye and scanned the area - just to be sure they weren't about to be attacked - and to his horror, chunks of the ceiling were falling around the room.
He didn't even have to think twice. Despite the horrible aftershock, he grabbed his shield and skidded towards Synfini, huddling close to her and keeping the shield raised above their heads. And it was lucky he did, too - he felt several rocks clang against the surface of the metal...
If they were hit, they'd likely never recover.Minutes passed before the quake subsided.
The two stayed in place, just to be sure they were safe before they pulled themselves back up.
"That...THAT'S what's causing the earthquakes!!" Synfini shouted, "...As Princess of the Rito...This is my chance to prove myself! This is my chance to separate myself from Grandma!"She turned to Link with hopeful eyes - and that same cheerful expression as always.
"Link! Let me fight alongside you! I have to do this!"He really, really didn't want to let her down...
But he also didn't want to let her die, either.
He sighed and shook his head.
No.Just like that, her eyes went empty.
"N-no?"Link avoided eye contact.
"...I see how it is. Okay, then - I'll sit back and do nothing. This isn't what I'm supposed to do, anyway."
Dejected, Synfini walked to the door in which they came from and sat against it, knees to her chest.Link's heart dropped - but he didn't have much more time to sit there and do nothing while this monster continued to just...exist.
Still, he would need to find a way to hit it before it could cause another quake, or else he might actually die.
Link took out his boomerang - he knew he'd need it, after all. That's just how these things worked - and he scanned the room for anything that could -The creature raised its wings.
No!
He was out of options - Link straight up threw his boomerang above its head at random, hoping for something to happen, but he didn't expect it to actually work.
The boomerang flew above its head and sliced through one of the silk ribbons hanging from the ceiling, dropping a solid-gold Lokomo Crest directly into the gem on its forehead.
The monster let out a horrible screech - several rocks began to crumble down from its body. So the gem was...holding it together?
Either way, it was stunned in place, and Link had to act fast if he was going to attack it directly. He launched himself towards it and ran up its body by climbing the rocky surface. Then, once safely onto its head,
He jabbed his sword into the gem, causing it to slightly crack.
The thing let out another terrible screech - throwing back its head and causing Link to tumble off - though he caught himself on one knee.
