"Bye mum. I'm going to be late." I say as I hop out of my mothers rusty old Volkswagen.
"Oh fine. Have a good day and don't forget to take your medicine." She yells a little too loudly. Ever since I had my attack in band regional last year my mother had been on me like a hawk to take my anxiety medicine. It was very tiring circle we kept running.
"Thanks mum, how could I possibly forget?"
She gives me a look that showed she did not approve of my remark. But thankfully she drives off, leaving a trail of smoke behind her.
I could see the popular girls standing up against our south California school's front door snicker. Including Kimberly. God she was beautiful. Every time I saw her I just-
"Hey, you lovesick puppy. If you keep staring at Kimberly like that she might suspect something. I don't think her very large boyfriend would be ok with that."
"Just in time." I say to my best friend, Zach, as he slides up next to me.
" Ya, because nothing is better than watching you pitifully watch Kimberly make out with her boyfriend." He says as he playfully shoves me.
"Shut up. Come on we have to get to class." I say as I punch him not so playfully.
"Dude admit it... You love her and she doesn't even know your existence on earth." Zach says as he follows behind me, running to catch up with my 6'1 frame.
I wasn't exactly ugly but definitely not worth Kimberly. I had blond hair, blue eyes, and I am a major band geek. I always thought of myself as a very simple looking guy. While Kimberly was anything but simple. Oh no she was a goddess. With her 5'6 frame, gorgeous brown hair, that was kept in tight waves down her back, and dark brown eyes. She shown brighter than diamonds. I know. It's a stupid analogy. But I have it bad. God how much fun it would be to-
"Hey Josh, did you get the chemistry homework done?" Zach says, again waking me from my explicit daydreams.
"No, I the honor roll making student, am just about to show up to my first period class completely unprepared." I shoot back sarcastically.
"Wow you didn't have to be rude about it." He playfully snickers "your just mad because the only thing you can seem to blow into is a saxophone."
"Says the virgin." I mumble back.
I slam my locker shut in frustration... My best friend since pre-k just loves to bring up the fact that I stood no chance with the schools it girl, Kimberly Johnson. She was a cheerleader with the best body and singing voice in the school. She had the football captain wrapped around her perfect little finger , along with the rest of the football team. Meanwhile I was MAJOR band geek and everyone knew it. The only people I ever seemed to impress were the teachers and college admissioners who just loved my 4.0 average.
"Bye man" Zach says as he goes into his first period math class.
Unlike me, Zach took normal classes. I took all AP classes. Thankfully though so did Kimberly.
"See ya." I say as I slip into AP chemistry right as the bell rings.
