I parked in front of the diner where I was meeting Charlie.  Mike and his jock friends were playing around in front of the diner. As I step out out my car, Mike greets me.

"Yo, California. So, you and Cullen, huh? That's... I don't like it."

I almost broke my neck as I turned to look at him, an appalled look on my face. 'Bitch, did I ask??' I thought, already annoyed.

"I mean, he looks at you like you're something to eat." Mike says.

And, without missing a beat, I shrug, "Well, I am a snack." I say matter-of-factually. I turn and walk into the diner, leaving the boy too stunned to speak.

(~In the diner~)

I walked inside and the bell to the door jingled. I scanned the room for my Uncle. I smiled as I found him and walked up to his table. He greeted me as I sat beside him.

"Hey, I got you a cheese burger, extra onions. Just how you like it." He said and I thanked him. Don't judge me! I love onions.

Cora came up to us with our food and set it down in front of us. "Here you go, one steak with fries, and one cheese burger with extra onions." She said, but not with her usual happy tone.

She turned towards Charlie and said, "Say, Chief, boys wanna know,"

Four older men sitting at the table behind her turned around and looked at Charlie expectantly,

"Did you find anything by Queets River today?" The waitress asked with hope hidden behind her sad eyes. Charlie sighed, "Well, we found a bare, human footprint. Whoever that was is headed east, so County Sheriff's gonna take it up from here." He explained.

Cora nodded, "Okay. I just hope they catch 'em fast..." And with that, she walked away. The men who were at the table behind Cora, turned back around and began to talk among themselves.

I felt sad for Cora. She lost her friend to those nomad vampires. I just hope they'll leave soon, before things get out of hand.

Charlie interrupted my thoughts by saying, "Looks like your friends are flaggin' ya'."

Confused, I turn around and roll my eyes as I see Mike waving his ass at me though the window. 'Frickin' goof.' I thought, amused. I scoff and bit into my burger.

"It's okay if you wanna go join 'em," Charlie says as he takes a bite of his steak. "I'm was gonna turn in early anyways."

"Honestly, same." I say.

He rolled his eyes, "Diamond, it's Friday night. You should go out. Looks like the Newton boy's got a big smile for ya'." He said, making me look at him incredulously.
