'Cause I know these days are calling out
The simple sets in the red skyline'"Bells, can you zip me up?"
La Push's icy breath whipped through the car park, sending the teens into teeth chattering convulsions. Shivering beside Tyler's beat up van where the door beads danced in merriment, Bella Swan pulled the zip of her twin's wetsuit up to her neck."Please don't make me go in there to collect your corpse once you die of hypothermia" Bella smirked to Carmen Swan, content in her puffer jacket and beanie. Unlike Carmen, Bella was perfectly happy to remain a safe distance away from the biting waves, joined by Angela.
"Don't worry about me Bells, I'm invincible!" The taller twin responded, chest bumping Jessica who, likewise to Carmen, was hyping herself up for the day's ventures.
"I'm paddling out Kooks" Tyler announced, passing through the cars with his board in a very John B fashion.
"I don't know if it's worth it" Eric replied, shivering into his wetsuit. "We're all the way out here, I'm at least paddling out" Jessica reasoned as Carmen did up the Velcro at the back of her friend's neck, "you guys are babies."
"Pussy" Carmen coughed, pretending to mask her jab as Mike and Eric feigned offence. "Watch it Swan, you'll be eating the foam from my waves," said Mike.
"Uh huh sure, from your one second ride before you nosedive," Carmen responded with fake applause."Bella, Carmen!" The twins heard, as Jacob Black spotted them, heading over with two friends in tow. With hair equally as long as Jacobs, Carmen pieces together the faces of the boys she'd know back in her childhood, her partners in crime to terrorise Charlie.
"No way, Quill and Embry? Haven't seen you two in forever!" Carmen grinned.
"Carmen Swan, or the hurricane as Sam still likes to call you," Embry smiled, hugging the girl.
"Jacob mentioned you're back, took you long enough to show your face in this neck of the woods," Quill laughed as the two reunited with the handshake the two had made up as kids.Meanwhile, Bella introduced Jacob to the group who huddled like a penguin against Bella.
"You guys should keep Bella company," Jessica suggested, "her date bailed."
"What date?" Mike bounced back.
"She invited Edward," she teased, Jessica looked to Carmen to ask on the status of her declined date, also known as Jasper Hale.
"To be polite," Bella defended, joined with a "ditto" from Carmen.
"I think it's nice they invited them, nobody ever does." Angela reasoned with a warm smile that conflicted with Jessica's satisfaction.
"Yeah cos the Cullens are freaks" Mike jabbed, supported by Quill, "you got that right." Carmen felt her irritation tick at the cruelty spawning from Mike, Eric and Jessica's jealous boners.
Jumping in before her twin could lash out in defence, Bella asked "do you guys know them?"
"The Cullens don't come here" the Res boys finalised the subject. With that, the teens ran down the beach, sand kicking up in their wake.
Upon reaching the water, the teens could barely stand up straight from laughter as Eric jumped for his board which he completely missed, instead face planting into the sea. "I meant to do that!"
Carmen, who'd had plenty of practice back in Phoenix; surfing being one of the few reprises from the heavy heat, began carving up the swell. After adjusting to the water's harsh temperature, mostly due to going numb, the fun began. With Mike and Eric competing to see who could ride the waves out furthest to Jessica and Carmen attempting to jump across to each other's boards mid ride, the purple tinge on their fingers and toes was the least of their worries.
As the day wore on and the waves began to die off. They called it quits and rode their last wave back into the shore. "We should do this every week!" Mike laughed along with the others, slinging his arm over Eric in a mock loving way, making kissing lips as the dark haired boy who began to run away. Teaming up with Eric, the sand ball fight began. Well...more like the demolition of Mike since he was heavily outnumbered.
Carmen let out a load whistle, noticing Jacob Black and the other teens of the Res, waving at them and her school friends to make their way down to sand.
A hour later with a bonfire blazing on the beach, fuelled by logs and empty pizza boxes, the teens eased their goosebumps as the sun waved goodbye through a myriad of pinks and oranges. The boys passed out some beers they'd snuck from the parents' cupboards, Bella and Carmen learning Tyler's party trick for popping off their bottle caps.
Beer splattered through the air as Eric poured it into Mike's mouth, whom was buried under piles of sand with his head being the only visible limb.
"I am the sand guardian, guardian of the sand" Mike announced to the others.
"Poseidon quivers before him!" Eric jeered.
"Fuck off" Mike yelled to the incoming tideThe night air grew think with laughter and bliss. Angela and Jessica attempted to recreate a Teen Beach dance routine they'd performed for a 10 year old talent competition.
Meanwhile, Carmen held Paul's hands as they re-enacted the titanic on-top of a mount of sand. "Don't let go Jack" Said Paul sincerely, "I'll never let go Rose," Carmen responded with an absurdly deep voice. "Paint me like one of your French girls!" Tyler jeered in a squeaky voice to Quill, posing seductively. Quill's response came in the form of 'My Heart Will Go On' which he belted (very off key) to everyone's amusement.
Carmen convinced some of the boys to head to the water for a chicken fight, consisting of Carmen on Embry's shoulders and Quill on Jacob's. After 30 seconds of raw foul play that would send any referee into an early grave, Carmen took a cheap shot by jabbing at Embry's side and successfully knocking him off Jacob's shoulders. On a high from their win, Quill raced back to shore with Carmen still seated of his shoulders with the pride of a gold medalist. Embry pretended to worship the tower that was Carmen and Embry as they victoriously sculled their cheap beer to the chorus of cheers.
With the stars as their witness, Jessica, Angela, Bella and Carmen decided that a quick skinny dip was a must. Savouring their warmth from the alcohol, they ran down the beach until they were the size of twigs to the boys' eye. They charged into the sea, flinging their clothes away in a mosaic of colour. The moon and stars glimmered in a symphony with the joy in their eyes as they had the time of their lives.
