Chapter 16

Before I can process what happened, I'm out on stage. I see Oliver in the wings giving me the thumbs up.

He's a dirty liar. How could he go behind my back like that? And Savanna... We all knew she was a bad girlfriend from the start, but she could've at least broken up with Chad first.

The curtain lifts up and the lights blind me.

"Oh- uh I am so lonely up in my castle. I wish I had someone to be with. Someone who'd make my days less lonesome." I say with a pout.

Suddenly, the sound of horses running plays as Nico runs on stage with a fake horse, "I believe I'm who you're looking for, fair maiden." I face away from Nico, tossing my nose in the air.
"As if! I want a prince who will bring me roses, not a smelly horse."
Grady runs to my side, "You called for roses?" He says, gasping for air.

I walk away from the pair with my arms crossed and nose, still in the air.
"I want a prince who looks more... charming."

I turn back to the failed princes with a snooty smile on my face. The princes look defeated, that's how I know that Chad is on stage.

"Charming, you say?" I turn around, and meet Chads eyes.
My heart feels heavy. I want to tell him everything I saw. I want to yell it out at the top of my lungs, but I can't. Hell, I can't say anything until after the show. Can't have him perform with a broken heart.

"Y-Yeah, you sure are charming." I manage to blurt out.
Chad let's out a chuckle, "Well m'lady-"

I tune him out, I can't do anything but watch his lips move. M'lady wasn't in the script, I specifically asked for it not to be. He's up to something and for once I'm not scared to see the direction it'll take me.

All of these old feelings are rushing back over one word. I'm flustered, I can't remember my lines. I don't even know if my face is keeping in character.

Before I know it, it's my turn. My eyes search Chads face for any hint on what my line is. Chad looks more worried with each passing second.

"Sonny..."
"Yes! Uh yes, you sure are charming, but are you humble?"

Chad throws his arms up in frustration, "Well- ugh! I didn't know that was a requirement!"

I roll my eyes at him, getting back into my character. Before I know it, Oliver runs out on stage.
"Don't worry princess! I'm here to rescue from these sorry princes."

I break script. "How can I be sure I can trust you?" I ask, with my back still turned to him. I can tell Oliver is nervous by his awkward chuckle.
"Wouldn't you agree that I have more class than these buffoons, princess?"

I toss my nose in the air, "I don't know. Are you loyal? Would you follow me to the ends of the earth? Would you stay by my side no matter what?" I turn around to show Oliver the tears streaming down my face.
Oliver is confused, he doesn't know what I just saw.
"Besides-" I start, "I like someone who's more goofy than mature." I state, walking over to Chad.

Chad is clearly confused as I grab his hand. I stare deeply into his eyes.
"Could a buffoon like him hurt me? I don't think so."
Chads face is lighting up with new shades of deep red.

Oliver is confused and nervously looking at the other cast members. "Sonny... I don't think this was part of the skit." Chad whispers to me. I don't want to listen. I don't want to hear anything. I walk over to Oliver, lifting my hand high into the air before slapping him across the face.

The crowd bursts out laughing, they think this is part of the skit.
Going along with this I turn to Chad, "Let's go and leave these pigs alone." I say, returning back to the script.
The curtains close and we go to a quick ad break, giving us 10 minutes to prepare for our next skit. Luckily, I'm not in the next skit so I get a small break. As I make my way to my dressing room, Oliver runs up to me and grabs my wrist.
"What the hell was that Sonny?!"
"I don't know... payback?"
"For what? What could I have done to earn that slap?!"

I don't respond. I don't want to ruin the show, but I certainly don't want to continue.
"We can finish this conversation after this." I pull my hand away from him and continue walking.

...

"Girl, what was that about out there?!" Tawni shouts, bursting into my drsssing room.
"I could've been naked!"
"Why did you change the script?"
"I don't want to talk about it..." I look down at my vanity table. I don't know how to tell her without breaking down.
Tawni sits next to me. "You never go off script... seriously, I'm worried."
"Oliver... he... he's cheating on me. I saw him kissing Savanna in the wings."

Tawni pulls me in for a hug, squeezing the tears out of me. "Oh Sonny..."
"I don't really wanna do the rest of the show tonight with him... I just-"
"You're not gonna quit because of a stupid boy!" Tawni pushes me back. "You're gonna wipe away those tears and go back out on that stage like nothing happened and rip Oliver a new one after the show."

She's right. Oliver isn't gonna dictate my career like that. I stand up with Tawni, hand in hand and I walk over to the stage with her. The skit is just wrapping up as everyone's running around to set up for the next skit.

Curtain closes and the audience cheers.

Check it out girls are next.

...

Honestly, the check it out girls skit is probably the best thing we could've come up with. It comes so naturally for us and it's a hit with the audience.
I got so wrapped up in character I didn't realize Oliver wasn't onstage.
Well... until Tawni pointed it out to me.

"Like... check it out... we have no customers here. Where is everyone?"
"Like... check it out we are so totally done with our shift?"
"Like check it out I thought we had one more customer in line."
"Like check it out let's clock it out."
*cue theme song*
Curtain closes.

Marshall is FREAKING out. "Where's Oliver?! Oh god this is bad. This is SO bad!"
Everyone is running around. Our next skit has Oliver as the main character.
Did I freak him out?

Marshall gathers us around, "I am so sorry to you all. We will have to cancel the rest of the show for tonight. Oliver is missing in action." Everyone is trying to convince Marshall to continue the show, but his mind is made up.

He opens the curtain.

The crowd grumbles as they leave.

Where is that bastard?
