All was dark... It's been like this for a while now for me. It's like floating around in darkness. This wasn't a bad feeling though. Floating around in darkness was lonely, but the comfort factor far outweighed the loneliness. However, a jolt shook that darkness away and revealed the world, bright and beautiful which I had been gone from for some time.
As my eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the light, I saw two people. One of them was an older looking man, I think in his 80's, with a magic wooden staff, and the other looked significantly younger, looking around 21 with a sword at his waist. They seemed to be... excited?
"Ngh— Who..." I said as I got up off of the floor, my voice reflecting my groggy state. The mood of the room turned from that of excitement to a more solemn mood. The elder spoke up and bowed "Excuse us for this summoning miss, but we are in dire need of a strong being like yourself, so we turned to the only thing we knew. Please do us a favor and get rid of the demons that are outside!"
The old man seemed genuine, but the younger one was a bit off... I rubbed my eyes and adjusted them before processing what the old man said. "WAIT, WHAT!?" I exclaimed . "Miss, right now, our little village is getting attacked by a horde of about 20 demons. They are rather weak compared to other demons, but we simply do not have the ability to deal with them. This is why we summoned you. Will you please help?" The younger one said, walking closer and bowing like the old man had done a bit earlier.
"EH—!? If they're weak, then why the hell aren't you taking care of it!? You should have been able to take down a few at least!" I said frantically. The tent we were in rustled a bit before the younger man looked up with a look that shared panic and anger and said, "They're here..."
The moment those words had left his mouth, a demon walked in. The demon's skin looked lighter than that of an average demon, but he had 3 horns; a magic demon who is lacking in defense, a common sight for demons.
Annoyed by the intrusion, I pointed at the demon and said with a hushed seriousness, "You idiots are the ones that caused these two to wake me from my nap? I can't tell if you're a whole new form of brave or if you're just trying to provoke me; Either way, this won't turn out well for you if you don't leave."
The demon and the younger one who summoned me looked taken aback by what I had said, but nonetheless the demon continued forward. "I warned you." I said as I lifted my hand and approached the demon. The demon stopped and began chanting something, probably to activate a spell. Regardless of what it was for, I dashed forward and grabbed his wrist with both hands and broke it over my knee.
The demon stopped chanting and instead was howling in pain now. The demon looked up and said, "Spare me please!!" It was in demonic, which makes sense because he's a demon, but I didn't expect him to just start speaking it, thinking anyone in a human village knew it. Luckily for this demon, I knew demonic. "You heard me, yes? I told you to back off!" I said in demonic. The demon looked shocked and spoke again. "I don't speak human. None of the demons in our group do. I didn't understand your warning!"
I sighed and said with a resigned tone, "You're lucky as hell that I know demonic, otherwise you'd be a goner already. Anyway, if we can converse, then I need you and your merry men to back the hell off of this land and never attack it again. If you refuse or break this deal, then I will show no mercy and eliminate you on the spot along with your demon friends." The demon nodded with a panicked eagerness and ran out of the tent.
Soon after, a shout was heard from a demon and as the 2 and myself exited the tent we saw the demons backing off. I let out a sigh of relief before the elder and younger man approached me with clear excitement in their eyes. "That was amazing miss! What's your name, I must know!
I looked at him for a moment while I racked my brain. 'My name? What was it? Oh right it was—,' "My name is Euphoria Norrie. It's a pleasure... I guess." the younger one snickered a bit before he said, "Bit of a unique name; I like it. My name is Xavier. This old man over here is the chief of the village and my grandfather, Adrion."
Adrion grabbed my hand and said, "Thank you Euphoria, from the bottom of my and the people of the village's heart." It was awkward, letting him thank me the way he did, but I allowed it since he seemed like he needed to get this out of his system. I looked up to Xavier and said, "So could you please explain to me what is happening?"
Xavier looked down with an uncomfortable look before saying, "The demon wars. That's what happened." Upon hearing that, my entire frame shook with hatred; a hatred without reason. My voice trembled as I choked out, "The what?"
