'To my starlight',
It had been almost 10 years since Suga had last heard that nickname, and reading it on an envelope inside his mailbox made him freak out a bit.
Suga had gone forward with his life, becoming an elementary school teacher and spending his days happily teaching young kids how to read and write.
Sometimes his mind traveled back to that time that he spent with Tooru. Despite everything that happened, he mainly remembered him with a bittersweet feeling, while the resentment, an ache and emptiness, were buried deep down inside his heart. Hidden well enough to not feel them anymore, at most muted versions of them when the brunette came up in conversations.
Suga was not an idiot. He had heard about the other's great feats in Argentina as a very skilled and fearsome setter. Despite the bitterness he felt at first, he now looked at him with a sense of pride. The most recent contact with him was a couple of years prior, when Hinata had accidentally met him in Brazil and sent a photo to the whole Karasuno volleyball group chat.
Suga picked up the envelope, holding his breath. He entered the house, while having Daichi on speed dial on his phone. He opened the envelope, only to find two neat little lightly colored cards.
'I'm sorry.'
'Do you miss me like I miss you?'
The silver haired immediately called Daichi, overwhelmed by the waves of heartache and helplessness that got over him all at once. He was even shaking slightly.
"Daichi." He breathlessly said, barely louder than a whisper.
"What's wrong Suga? Something happened at work?"
"I- I got home and there was this envelope-"
Daichi said nothing, waiting for his best friend to continue. He knew that Suga was having a hard time speaking, but insisting would just make him more troubled.
"I think he's back."
"Who's... OH."
Daichi was immediately overwhelmed by the memories of that summer evening 10 years prior in which he found Suga looking like he was about to collapse in on himself in the park near their homes. He was slightly swaying on the swings with an empty look in his eyes. The only thing he was able to say to Daichi was "He went away, Daichi. I'm an idiot."
The former crow captain really didn't want to see his best friend go through all that once again. He was determined to stop this before it could mess Suga's life once again.
"Suga, keep calm. I will try to see what I can do about it."
"Daichi, if you're thinking of involving the police department, I'm gonna kick you."
Suga could hear the other snicker through the phone.
"No, don't worry. But I think I will make some phone calls to try to understand what's going on. You and I both know that he should still be in Argentina, so it makes no sense for him to be able to send something to you now. Also how could he know your home address? Someone must have talked to him."
The silver haired felt his jaw drop and then burst out laughing.
"Wow Daichi, no wonder you're almost a detective now. Unfortunately, I see only one flaw in your plan. Am I supposed to sit still and wait? You know I won't be able to."
"Oh right, you and your inability to listen. Why don't you try asking Kageyama? He might know something."
After hanging up with Daichi, Suga thought back at what his best friend had said. Kageyama? He might know something, after all he was not only my junior, but also his too.
