The beginning

There's little I remember about my old life. I remember I was the princess of Tregaarn and was very respected. I was kind and loyal. I had a loving family. That all changed when I died though. I died of an illness. Called Krithermenaa, it's an incurable disease and very deadly. I remember my dying breaths and my last words. Stay...Loyal.... My... son. And then blackness. There was nothing... then something in the universe just clicked. Like I was... born. Well turns out I was. I was born into the streets. My name was Meggie. My new life was a complete downgrade from my old life. I was born all alone with my older brother. He was kind and reminded me of my old family. My first years were hungry and dangerous. My brother supplied. After a while I learned his name was Evan. Evan was a tall man. He had black hair and purple eyes. He was what this world called a Erever. An Erever was a elf type creature. They had pointy ears and could talk to animals. Their eyes changed color depending on their emotion and they were typically kind. For some reason society hated Erevers and avoided them. High class erevers were bullied and couldn't get good jobs. Back to my brother. He was the kindest person anyone would ever think of. I faintly remember the day when he found us. A fair looking man. He offered us jobs and a home. Since me and my brother  had nothing we accepted the offer. I was only two, my brother thirteen. They weren't jobs. It was slavery, we had been kidnapped. For years we went through mental and physical abuse.

PRESENT TIME (Meggies 5, Evan's 16)

Swiftly I did my chores. I had to collect water from the well. I was thinking while walking with my water. I never got to do anything fun. It had almost always been that way. I sighed. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Amber. She was the "supervisor" of us slaves. She monitored our chores to see if we did them right. Amber was also the Masters kid. In short, she was a spoiled kid who only cared about herself, and wealth. Amber walked up to me and poked my shoulder. "Hey, number 23! How's the slave job doing. Just a reminder to dye your hair. It's the ugliest thing I've ever seen. And I've seen your face." Amber did an annoying snicker and pushed me to the ground. "Ha! Take that slave! And come to my room when your done." With that Amber pranced away. I picked myself up off the ground. I forgot to mention it before but me and my brothers hair is white and pink. It's a near impossible color to get and people who have it are made fun of. I'm not sure why... Anyway, I picked up the bucket of spilled water from the ground. Ugh... all the water has spilled out! I'll have to do it again... "NUMBER 23 COME TO MY OFFICE RIGHT AWAY." I sighed. Hurriedly I ran to Master Sean's office. "Little child. You're doing your tasks oddly slow." Master paused as he looked up at me. I felt uneasy. My palms were super sweaty. "It is because I'm hungry... Sir." I mumbled. "What?" I couldn't contain myself. I was so fed up! I was only five! "I'M HUNGRY! IF YOU CAN'T FEED ME I CAN'T WORK!" Master looked surprised. "You, you damn brave child!" Master Sean looked at me angrily, "You wouldn't mind if I cut that gross little tongue off would you?" Master pulled out a knife and slowly walked towards me. I was choking on my spit. I couldn't breath. Once Master got close enough to stab me my flight or flight response triggered. I kicked his shin and fled out the door. Master was delayed enough for me to scream, "EVAN HELP!" Luckily my brother, Evan, was right around the corner. "Meggie? What's wrong?" Once he saw master he dropped his towel and ran with me. Together, with master chasing, we ran through the streets. I was still crying out help and my brother was trying to search his bag. "HELP! HELP! SOMEONE PLEASE!" Why was the no one on this road!? After running for what seems like forever I smacked into someone. In a panic I scrambled up and grabbed my brothers hand. I was crying wildly and hugging my brother. "Excuse me sir but we have to go! NOW!" My brother shouted. We still hadn't looked at the man. "SIR PLEASE! ME AND MY SISTER WE'RE IN GRAVE DANger...." my brothers shouting came to a halt. There, In front of us was the Emperor. He looked sorta angry and worried at the same time. "STOP CHILDREN YOUR SCREAMS ARE USELESS!" Master ran up behind my brother and threw a knife. In seconds my brother fell to the ground in front of my eyes. His hand went cold and eyes went blank. The emperor stared coldly at the man who'd killed my beloved brother. When the man realized that the Emperor was here he stared in shame at my brother's limp body. I was still staring in shock at my brother. He was too far gone to save now. Instinctively I ran behind the closest grownup to shelter myself from the maniac before me. "Tell me sir. Did you gain a damn thing from killing this boy? Who are you? And who are these kids?" Master looked nervous and knelt down, "These are my kids Emperor. I never meant to kill the boy. I was going to bring him home but he ran." The Emperor looked at me and asked, "Is this true?" I shook my head and buried my face into his pantleg. A guard tapped my shoulder and asked me to stand near him and close my eyes. He put his sword down and covered my ears. Though it was muffled I could still hear. Master was pleading for his life. Then I heard a scream and then... nothing. The guard uncovered my ears and told me not to look behind me. "Let's go. To the castle, and someone carry the boy and girl." The kind guard who covered my ears picked me up. I didn't see who picked up my brother. All I could see was his limp body. My brother, usually so energetic and happy, limp and sorrowful. He was... blank...
