Chapter 3: Making a splash

The car came to a stop when we got to the hospital. Ana got out of the car and came over to my door and opened it, her hand signals were telling me to get out. "Do you need help walking?" She said with a sympathetic voice, " no I'm fine". We got threw the door and a nurse had shoved me into a wheelchair while another nurse was asking me question about what had happened " so do you wanna explain how you got all the cuts and bruises?, I'm gonna guess that you didn't fall down there stairs if that's your excuse." I didn't say anything because he new what had happened,it was written all over his facial expressions and wise ass tone. He new I wasn't going to fess up to it, probably like ever woman that comes in here for abuse.

When i got in to the room i seen my sister was talking to the nurse probably explaining what had happened, I was happy that my sister was there because I don't think I could have enough strength to tell a doctor that the man I love, beat the shit out of me because he found out that I was pregnant. Finally the doctor came in to the room, he looked at me and said " you know some day your gonna work up the courage to leave him!" I looked at him and then looked down knowing that its gonna be hard to leave him. He took my sister out of the room and then he told me to get undresses.

The nurse came in a gave me one of those hospital gowns, I slipped in to it and then the doctor came back in. " is it alright if I look at your stomach?" He questioned, I nodded. I could stop worrying about my baby, I didn't know what to say but I had to say something "um Dr.Gilbert?"

"Yes ma'am"

"Is the baby gonna be ok?"

" your not far enough along for it to have done any damage. I seriously hope you consider leaving that man for the sake of your child! Your very lucky that your not that far along yet because if you were then it would have killed the baby"

I just looked down at the floor again, and hoped he wouldn't bring it up again but I know he's gonna. He looked at the rest of my body and then Left the room Allowing me to change back into my blood covered cloths. By the time I got all of my cloths back on the nurse asked me if I wanted a pair of clean cloths. I sighed and wished she would have asked me before I put on my other ones but I just smiled and nodded politely. The doctor came back into the room with a booklet of paper work, he looked at me with a serious face and handed me the papers.

" I don't know you Ms. Fitzgerald, but id like to work with you to help out your baby and to keep you protected. I have delt with abuse patients before and the hardest ones are always the ones in a relationship. We have a womans program, they will help you with the payments of any child related appoinments from altrosounds to the day you give birth. They have helped many girls in your situation, and I really hope you consider looking into it. They have weekly meetings here at the hospital, so you can talk about anything you need to. They also allow one family member to come into the meetings with you but you can only do that every two weeks."

"I will defiantly look into that" I said quietly and unesuring

"Iv already told you sister about it, and she has started filling out some paper work for you. And now we have to get into the part we will both hate the most..., I need to know what happened. Im here to help you and to keep you safe and I cant just go off of what your sister has told me. Its ok to talk about troubling things Ms. Fitzgerald. The person who did this to you is not someone you should have in your life or you child's life. I need to know everything that happened."

I dropped my head into both of my hands and just sat there for a minute, knowing that I had to tell people about it all just made it so much harder for me. When you love a man so much and you go to the point of almost loosing all your family for him and then have this happen; its not only painful and heart breaking but its embarrassing.
