"First, separation of church and state. The catholic church has been fired for multiple serious crimes that had been happened inside of it. Regarding the motion, It merely says if a priest should be legally required to report a crime if it was said anonymously given from a confession."
I looked at him while I said those words, tinututok ko pa sa kaniya ang kutsara na hawak ko. Nasa Ice cream shop kami ngayon at naka-pwesto kami malapit sa may bintana. Habang kumakain kami ng Ice cream ay bigla na lang siyang naglapag ng motion dahil nasa mood daw siya mag-debate. What a weird guy!
"This house would legally require priests to report all serious crimes that they hear of in confessions. I'm with the opposition side."
"Set a parameter." He said.
"Wait nga lang! Hindi pa ako tapos mag-salita. I will mention the parameter. You need to be patient!" Inis kong sabi sa kaniya.
"Okay, wow, I'm sorry." That's not even sounded like an apology!
"As I was saying, the parameters? As the motion is not quite specific about what kind of priest we are gonna tackle, thus I prefer talking about the catholic church or priest." I continued. I mentioned a lot of things until it was his turn.
"It will only decrease the chances of their safety. On a confession, there is no doubt that one out of ten of those people have confessed a crime or two that they did in the past." Nahulog ang panga ko.
"So, what does it mean if the criminal confess their crimes?"
"It means they are now ready to change their lives and begin a new good living." He answered immediately. Napa-ayos ako ng upo at muling tinuro sa kaniya ang kutsarang hawak ko.
"Okay, listen. Religions follow the Ten Commandments, so, if a murderer confesses to their crime. 'I killed my cousin, father,' was the first sentence of the anonymous person. It would be hypocritical if a priest ignores and brushes it away." I said. Huminga pa ako ng malalim bago mag-salita ulit.
"If the catholic church talks about kindness and the truth, what hinders them to say this crime that isn't even morally right to their side" Idiniin ko pa 'yung kindness and the truth sa kaniya.
"That will only let them feel that priests shouldn't be trusted, and then it'll lure them into doing something more illegal." Napasandal siya sa upuan niya at tiningnan ako, waiting for my rebuttal.
It took me 2 minutes to finally say something again. "Hindi mo naman intention na mag-side sa mga criminal?" He laugh at me.
"Ino, I am the opposing, it's my job to protect my side. This is a debate. And, we are talking about the policy of catholic churches who has their own ground into running churches."
"Give me another reason why oppose." I said.
"A priest shouldn't be required to report crimes because aside from that is their job. It's also their job to keep secrets. Instead of legalizing priests to report all these crimes, shouldn't we let them reflect themselves and let the priests convince or even lure them into doing it for themselves."
I was about to open my mouth when he started talking again.
"I'm not saying that every crime committer should 'reflect on themselves and be a good person' no."
