George's POV
I slump down in my chair, I have my own office and my own name tag that reads "Detective George Crabtree", but I'm not thinking much about my job right now. All I can think about is why Edna is behind bars, it's my fault, I tried to save her. If i hadn't been close to her none of this would have happened. I think of Simon at school, he probably isn't even there. He's probably got into trouble again and I will have to go get him out of jail, at the worst. I hear my phone ring and jump. It has been a boring day so far, not much to do. I pick the phone up.
"Detective George Crabtree speaking." I say.
"Good afternoon George." I hear Murdoch say from the other end of the phone.
"Detective! How are you" Am I needed?" I say enthusiastically. Maybe a little too enthusiastically.
"Yes I need you to get to over to Station House Four as fast as you can." He says.
"W-" I start to say.
"I'll explain when you get here George." He says as he hangs up.
I set the phone back down and quickly slip my coat on and put my hat on. I step out of the station house and I breath in the spring air.
***
As I walk in The Station House my hands shake like always. At least when William is there. I do not know why, he just makes me have an emotion I have never felt. My love towards him rebellious, I do not understand why love, a certain kind of love, can be illegal.
"George!" Murdoch says. He walks over and gives me a big hug. "How is it at Station House Three?"
My heart races, his arms are wrapped around me. I breath a heavy sigh, then go back to reality.
I reply "I have not done much yet, just settling in. I miss you... All of you." William looked nervous. I decided to make conversation with a joke.
"What have you William?" He gave me a slight smile then replied "Come to my office this can not be discussed openly."
I sit down in the chair in front of his desk as he starts to explain.
"George, I have invited you here to discuss a new murder, I would like to mentor yo-"
"Sir! You already are my mentor!"
"Yes, but I would like you to assist me in this murder case."
We left his office. Higgins gave me a smile and I smiled back.
I should come back to say a proper hello later.
Me and Murdoch start walking to the Mourge. He looks over to say something. I think, but stops. Stop looking at me with those eyes.***
"Why hello George what a nice surprise to see you!" Emily says as we walk in.
"Hello Emily, I have come to help Detective Murdoch with the new murder"
"Oh how exiting." She says with that smile she has when she learns something new.The victim looked in his early thirties, he seemed to have burns along his jawline and a fracture of the neck. His head also had clearly been hit multiple times, but what with?
Emily explained his wounds, and time of death. Approximately eight hours earlier.
"Thank you Dr. Grace." Murdoch says.
"Thank you Emily." I say.***
We hop out of the carriage and Murdoch shows me where they first found the body to see what I can make of it.
"Was there much blood sir?" I ask.
"No, very little." He replied.
"He must've been killed here then."
"Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking."We stand in the middle of the park where all the children normally play. Just a big patch of grass. It seems like the killer wanted someone to see the body if he brought the man out in the open. At the park.
I look around me to see where the killer might have dragged the mans body from. There was the road off to the right, more park to the left and a clump of trees. The trees made the most sense to drag a body through, so the killer wouldn't be seen. I started to walk and Murdoch followed without hesitation. Through the trees there was an opening with a bench that hadn't been painted for a long time. And past that, the forest. The forest leads to a property as I remember.
"That forest, it leads to someone's land, does it not?" I say.
"Indeed it does." Murdoch says.
"If you know all of this already sir then how am I of use?"
"Im getting you ready to do detective work George, and by the looks of it so far, station house three will have a fine detective."
