king woke from his nap dazed and confused. he wipes his sweat-clad forehead against his hand, sighing as he pulls his covers off of his over-heated body.
"wan' lilah" he shuffles to his feet, nausea overcoming the delicate little as he stands vertically. a cry falling from his lips he runs to his bathroom, hauling himself over the toilet and letting go of his stomach contents.
to say he was frustrated was an understatement. king and delilah had a huge day planned for their last day together, it including his favourite vegan ice cream, the movie theatre and a mall visit. he was excited, but now his plans were ruined.
laying his head against the toilet seat, he quietly cries to himself, his little-space unsteady as he age slides.
"delilah!" he cries out trying to gain the attention of the elder. to no use. king had no idea of the time, the sun was glistening against the bathroom tiles, so he suspected it was at least after 5am.
he continues crying to himself, after no response from delilah he drags his weak body back to his bed, crying himself back to sleep.

"king? sweetie?" delilah picks up the shaking boy from his bed. she had attempted to wake him up to realise he had wet himself and was shaking profusely.
trying not to scare the sick boy, she takes him to his bathroom and places him in the empty bathtub, the toilet catching her eye.
"oh, no, baby" she sighs as she sees the throw up in the un-flushed toilet. flushing it, she picks king back up and places him on the bathroom cabinet, his eyes fluttering open as she does so.
"mommy" he cries out, his arms flying forward and back around her neck. in shock, delilah just stands there and let's him climb back into her arms.
she felt the blush rise to her cheeks as she snaps out of her trance, an anxious laugh escaping her full lips as she walks with king towards the bathtub, turning on the water and plugging the bath. "mommy's here baby."
as they wait for the bath to fill, delilah sings to the small boy.
"
you are my sunshine ,
my only sunshine ,
you make me happy ; when skies are grey .
you'll never know dear ,
how much i love you ,
please don't take my sunshine away .
the other night dear ,
as i lay sleeping ,
i dreamt i held you in my arms .
when i awoke dear ,
i was mistaken ,
so i hung my head and i cried .
"before she could finish, the bathtub had filled and was at the perfect temperature. she tried to stand the whining boy on the floor to undress him, but he had none of it, crying to get back into his temporary caregiver's arms.
"no!" he cries into her chest as she pulls off his pyjama shirt and shorts, throwing them in the laundry basket to her left and peeling the boy's undergarments from his sweaty body.
delilah felt bad that she didn't know he was sick sooner. she had planned on waking the boy up at 7am for their day trip, but decided against it last minute after remembering how tired the boy had been the previous night from their long day in town.
she frowns at the crying toddler, picking him up under his armpits and putting him into the bubble-filled bath, one he would usually enjoy.
instead of his usual giggles, he lay there steady, his head slumped against the side tiles and small sobs escaping his chapped lips.
she runs her hands up and down his shoulders in a failed attempt to soothe the sad boy. she felt unbelievably guilty for this, as he had probably caught something yesterday.
"king, delilah's going to go and grab a covid-19 test, okay? just for precaution." she speaks in third person, to which he nods and coughs a dry, heavy cough.
she didn't think he had coronavirus, but it was currently the law to get tested when showing any symptoms, and on top of that king was unvaccinated.
running as fast as possible downstairs, she heads to the kitchen and pulls open a cabinet, pulling out the lateral flow tests and taking them upstairs with her.
she felt uneasy leaving him alone in the bath for too long, his headspace being too young to know how to self-preserve his life if in danger.
"king, im back" she walks in and he's sat up now, a small, heavy smile on his face, shoulders slumped.
"my brave little boy, aren't you baby" she soothes him and runs her hand across his cheek, to which he leans into.
"mhm, love you" he smiles into her touch, and she smiles in return to the boy's kind words.
she had fallen head over heels for the small boy, but he needn't know that.
"okay king, open wide so i can swab you, yeah?" delilah asks the boy who complies, opening his mouth for delilah to twist the cotton swab against his tonsils. he choked slightly but remained generally calm during the 15 second process.
"nose now, king" delilah warned as she carefully put the cotton bud up his nose, swabbing him gently before placing it in the solution, and onto the testing stick.
while waiting the 10 minutes for the results, delilah grabs a soap bar and lathers king up, washing the soap off and whispering soothing words to him.
as the 10 minute finished, delilah's heart rate increased as she picked up the test, scared for the result.
and as she hadn't expected, the test in her fingertips was positive. king had covid-19. fuck.
