I wake up to notice that Felix isn't sleeping next to me. Turning my nightstand that holds my alarm clock, the time is 1:52 am. It isn't like him to get up in the middle of the night, and I debate on getting up, but quickly change my mind, he's probably gotten up to get water or something.
I close my eyes, trying to drift back into my pleasent slumber but find myself unsuccessful. The bed feels cold without Felix next to me. I sweep the sheets off of my tired body and bring myself into a seated position before standing up onto my feet to find Felix. The room is still completely dark, making it difficult for me to find my way to our bedroom door. When I eventually find the doorknob and open the door, the hallway light blinds me before my eyes can adjust. Felix was definitely here.
I drag my lazy feet along the smooth wooden floors of the hallway, making my way down to the kitchen where I'd expected to see Felix. But when I arrive, he is no where to be seen. I knit my eyebrows together in confusion. Where could he be? I turn around to head back to our room when I notice that the faint glow of our five year old daughter, Isabella's nightlight is shining through the half opened door and into the hallway. I shuffle over and peek into her room, normally she sleeps with the door closed. When I glance inside her room I see Felix, sitting on her bed holding her tightly in his arms and singing softly to her as she slowly drifts back to sleep.
"Nightmare," He whispers over to me, noticing my presence, "I didn't want to wake you." I nod my head understandingly and walk over to sit next to them. Felix contunues to hum into Isabella's ear until her eyelids completely close and she drifts back into the dreamland. I stand up off of Isabella's bed while Felix tucks her gently back under her covers. I watch her closely, studying her young, flawless face. Felix looks at me.
"What's wrong?" he asks with a curious look.
"Nothing," I whisper back, "she is just so beautiful." He walks over to me and pulls me into a hug and kissing me on the top of my head.
"Beautiful," he repeats into my ear, "just like her mother." he says, pulling back a bit and kissing me gently on the lips.
"I love you so much, Felix." I tell him, hugging him again and absorbing his warmth.
"Kylie, I will aslways love you too." He whispers kissing me one more time before we both head back to our room.
