Malice's POV:
"Darling, I'm back from the gym!" I call through the apartment as I swing the door open. No response, weird. I shrug it off, maybe she just went out for a walk or something.
Then I notice the food scattered across the counter, and music is playing rather loudly. I should probably turn it off. Once I enter the bedroom, I notice the paper laying on her pillow. I pause and try to think of what it could say.
I stand beside the bed and stare at the note. I can't decide if I want to know what it says. I lay across the bed and stared at my reflection on the ceiling while the music continued to play around me.
Then I realized, the same song keeps repeating over and over. I decide to listen to the lyrics and the words make my heart sink in my chest:
Loving you was young, and wild, and free
Loving you was cool, and hot, and sweet
Loving you was sunshine, safe and sound
A steady place to let down my defenses
But loving you had consequencesNo matter how much it will hurt, I have to open the letter and read it word for word. The first thing I noticed is the tear stains and her lipstick stamp in the corner. I focus my attention on the words. It reads:
Dear Malice,
Before you start looking for me, I'm gone. This isn't easy, but I hope this letter clears it up a bit. I couldn't stand living in a lie any longer. To start from the beginning, we only met because of my career. I was hired by your brother, Zeus. He wanted you brought in dead or alive. I've been doing this kind of work for many years at this point.
Last night, your brother dried to sexually assault me. Luke stepped in and handled it. With Zeus dead, I no longer had to worry about completing my contract. It was then I realized, our relationship wasn't more than over protective fucking. For me, it was my job. For you, a way to get out of school and get more respect. I can no longer be in a relationship where we pretend to be in love, without even knowing the littlest things about each other.
You'll always have a part of my heart. You were my first, but you won't be my last. And that's okay. I know you'll move on from this. You'll find another girl who loves every single part of you. I want you to know that I still care about you even though I'm not there. So, once you finish reading this letter, I want you to get some snacks and sit on the couch. Stay calm. The process of moving on starts right now, you can make it through. We can both make it through and find better people and a better life.
-Summer
I throw the letter onto the ground and place my head into my hands. How could she? I'm not even sure what to be the most mad about.
I know she is right about one thing though. I need to stay calm. I'll go over the letter in detail later. I stand up from the bed and clear the tears from my eyes as I walk to the stereo and turn it off.
That's when I notice the open drawer. She's really gone, for good. I walk into the bathroom and notice everything of hers is missing. I can't dwell on this right now. I'll deal with these emotions in time, for now I'm getting some water.
I walk through the kitchen in disarray. I'll clean it later. I reach in the fridge and grab a bottle of water and notice a small piece of paper. It's Summer's handwriting:
Bought these for you, hope you like them <3She must've put these in the fridge last night after she requested that we stop at the grocery store on the way home for 'feminine products.'
I reach for the bag behind the note. It's salted caramel truffles. I hate caramel. She's got one thing right then. We didn't know all that much about each other, not even the foods we hate.
I throw the bag in the garbage, shut the fridge, and walk to the living room. I sit down and grab the TV remote in hopes of a distraction.
*Knock Knock
"Come in!" Ugh."What the hell are you guys doing here? I did not invite you," I snap at them.
"Sorry boss, we just got a text from Summer saying you need us," Blake starts.
"Yeah, something about needing some friends," Blaine continues.
"She said you were emotional and needed some guy time," Jackson adds.
"Where's Luke?" I ask.
"Not sure, Summer said to not worry though. Apparently he told her that he couldn't make it," Blaine shrugs.
"Fucking Luke!" I shout. In my rage, I throw the remote at the wall. It shatters, but not before turning on the TV. "Great! Now we are stuck watching the news all night to top off my shitty day."
"Hey boss," Jackson says softly.
"What!"
"You might wanna take a look at the TV."
I turn my head to look at the screen and my heart drops. Is that Luke's truck? Why is there ambulances? Was she with? Tears start to build up in my eyes. "Call every hospital in the city. Find them," I command.
Looking back at the TV again, I read the headline:
