Ding, ding, ding, ding
My eyes crack open to the sound of my phone alarm basting in my ear. A daily reminder that no one can escape the evil grasps of school. Sighing I finally open my eyes wide enough that I can see the early morning sun slip into the cracks in my blinds slowly filling my room with the golden color of morning.
Ding, ding, ding, ding
"Valeska, would you turn that damn thing off and get up, you're going to be late if you get your ass out of the bed this second!" Every bit of peace I had been feeling just moments ago was now shattered by my mother yelling up at me to get ready. "Mama, I'm up, it's only 6:45, school doesn't start till 8:45 im not gonna be late." I shouted back trying not to sound disrespectful but this early in the morning it's difficult not to be.
Permanently turning off my alarm this time I stumbled across the cold hardwood floors into the bathroom to get ready for another day in hell, my favorite place in the whole entire world. Devenford prep.
My parents' love for me is typically shown in the form of giving me things and so for my 17th birthday last week I became the proud owner of a 2015 Toyota FourRunner. I guess they might have heard me mention a few hundred times how much I love them and decided it would be perfect. I'm not complaining, I love it more than anything in the world.
After taking all of an hour and 15 minutes to get ready I walked down stairs in the horrendous uniforms we are forced to wear at school. I don't mind the skirt too much, just your basic green plaid skirt that all of us girls roll up so it's a borderline mini skirt. The jacket however is embarrassing no matter the fact that everyones wearing the same thing. Ugly green color with the school emblem marked into it. The most hideous thing you'll ever see.
I hit the last step and see my father walk around the corner. "Well don't you look lovely today darling." He speaks calmly in his Slovak accent giving the warm smile he always has. My father is a reasonably tall man in decent shape, nothing that stands out about him he simply just blends in, other than his eyes. Gray like the clouds on a rainy day. Like polished silver bullets staring at you always ready to fire. The same piercing gray eyes I have.
Unlike my father I tend to stand out. Other than the unusual colored eyes, sections of my hair is white. A condition I was born with called Poliosis creates patches in my hair where I simply have no color. My dark brown hair makes it very obviously stand out but I don't mind it. Freckles are scattered along my cheeks, nose and forehead. I'm about 5'5 with shoes on of course but closer to 5'4 realistically.
"Good Morning Papa!" I hug him as I walk past him heading towards the kitchen. "There's a game at Beacon Hills High School tonight. I think I'm gonna go. A bunch of kids from school are gonna go too." I say as I pack my backpack for school. "That's fine Vale, Just be safe please." he replied walking into the kitchen. Vale is the nickname my father gave to me when I was little because I couldn't pronounce my own name and from then on it stuck with my teachers and friends I've had throughout the years.
"Valeska!" All except my mother of course use my nickname "What are you still doing here? It's 8:00 and you need to get to school! Hurry up!" she yelled as she shoved the rest of the books in my backpack. "Mama I was about to leave, I was just talking to papa." I replied half annoyed and half laughing at how she was acting. "Dcéra you know I love you but you must get going. You will be in big trouble if you are late to class now that you are driving yourself." she laughed as she pushed me out of the door.

Hello Welcome to the first chapter in what I plan on making a very long series. I used this chapter as kinda an intro and to set the basics. So to clarify some thing Valeska is pronounced Val-s-ka.(read s as just s). Vale is like Val and I know it doesn't really make sense so if you want to be like phonetically correct it would be more like Dale (like mr.world wide says it) with a V. Her parents are from what was Czechoslovakia so that's where her name comes from and its meaning will come later in the story :). I will try and use certain Slovak words in the book but if I ever do Ill make sure to put what it means in English and if Im ever wrong please please correct me. Im very excited about writing this and I hope you enjoy it and if you're still reading this I love you have an amazing day!
Dcéra - slovak for daughter
