The next week carried on like last week did. I worked, the guys came in, they bought one or two albums, Ashton flirted and shortened my name, and I went home. It was like some kind of routine. I didn't mind though. It was nice to have some company at work. I was usually the only person working.
Today was just like the other days. Right now, Ashton was talking to me about some band that I should listen to. I told him that I would look them up later and give them a listen. If it's one thing he loves more than stealing, it's music. He loves talking about it, listening to it, just really anything to do with it. I asked him if he played anything and he said that he occasionally plays the drums whenever he could get his hands on a set.
"Dude, ask her," Michael asked Ashton as if I wasn't right in from of them.
"Ask me what?" I asked, leaning closer so I could hear.
"Alright, we have a proposition for you..." Ashton started.
"Go on."
"So, we're planning something big. Bigger than we've ever done, but we need someone to be a...distraction."
"What are you talking about?" I quieted my voice down, having an idea of what this "proposition" may be.
"I'm talking about robbing a bank."
My mouth nearly dropped to the floor. "Are you crazy?! Do you know how many cameras are at banks? You're gonna get arrested. No way. I'm not doing it. Find another distraction."
"C'mon, Gemma. You wouldn't even let me explain the whole plan."
I let out a frustrated sigh and rolled my eyes. "Fine. Tell me your plan."
"Okay, so. Michael here, he's our tech guy. He hacks the security cameras and cuts them out, so no one has any evidence or way to recognize us. Luke has always been the look out. He lets us know when cops our coming and when to get our asses out. He also helps with loading the money. Calum's our get away driver. He knows a thing or two about cars. And me, I'm the 'muscle'. I make sure we get all the money and take care of anyone that tries to come at us."
"What would I do?"
"Well, like I said, you're the distraction. Beautiful girl like you could swoon anyone into giving you the combination to the safe."
"This is insane, Ashton. Do you actually think it would work?"
"We've done it before."
"I thought you said this is the biggest thing you've done?"
"It is. The other banks we've hit were just little things with little to no security. The bank I'm talking about is the First National in the city."
My eyes went wide and my mouth hung open. "Now I know you're officially crazy. That bank is huge. They actually have guards. They'd shoot you if they felt the need."
"Like, I said, I take care of whoever comes at us. What do ya say, Gemma? Wanna help us out? We'll give you a big cut of the money, y'know since your little store is closing down soon."
I thought about it for awhile. This was sooo wrong and so illegal. We could get arrested or even killed by those guards. What if Calum's get away car broke down? What if the police caught up to us? What if someone gets shot? We couldn't go to the hospital with everyone knowing we robbed a bank. But at the same time, the thought made my blood rush with adrenaline. I wouldn't be doing any stealing. I would be a distraction. I get the combination. That's it. I don't have to physically take any money from the safe. And if this actually does work, Ashton said I could get some of the money. God knows I need it.
