Natasha's pov:
The warm sunlight hit my face as I began to wake. I turn over to find we've both moved closer into the center of the bed. It wasn't too bad, I could do 3 months of this. I slide out of the bed carefully as to not wake her.
Looking out the window, I find 75% of the town covered in a layer of white snow. I sigh as I make some coffee, I'd rather go down to Leslie and Koy but they aren't open yet. The snow looks like it's glowing as the sun hits the pure white, I put my mug into the sink and walk back into the bedroom. It's 6:45 so I go to wake her, we have to get some paperwork done and I have to brief her before we go talk to the victims. I shake her gently and she groans. Even though I act like I don't really like her right now, I do like her and I do care.
"Get up we have work to do," I say setting a mug of coffee on the nightstand. She rubs her eyes and gets up, downing the coffee quickly. I walk into the bathroom and brush my teeth and wash my face, Bobbi at my heels.
"We're going to talk to the victims today, then we are going to run tests and set up a station down at the crater," I say as I browse through the closet. 75% of my closet is black, the rest is red or white it a few expectations. I set on some black jeans, a black hoodie, and my everyday black leather jacket. As I walk out of the bedroom I catch a glimpse of the scars on Bobbi's back, and suddenly the days we spent here flood back into me.
The drive to the hospital was silent, small talk was made in the first 5 minutes. But we both know that'll get us nowhere so we just stop. I park the car and we walk into the hospital. I've always hated the smell of hospital lobbies, I'm not sure why. I guess it's the mix of hospitals and the outdoors that seems strange. After a few minutes, a member of security escorts us to the first room.
"Dialis Karp, 35, penetrating injury to the right-"
"-abdomen and chest. Collapsed lung and chest hematoma, blah, blah, blah. I've read her chart." I interrupt. "What do you think I've been doing for the last week," I mutter under my breath. We round the corner and enter the room.
"Hi Ms Karp, I'm Agent Romanoff and this is Agent Morse, we're just here to ask a few questions."
We spend around half an hour in each room. Asked what they were doing before, what they were doing there, what they saw, and all the typical stuff. We finish around it's lunchtime, and walk back out into the musty air of town.
"Leslie and Koy?" Bobbi asks. I nod.
We make our way to Leslie and Koy. Walking in with her next to me is weird, the last time we did that was November 15th, 2013. I order for the both of us and wait for the coffee as she talks to one of the people outside about moving their car so we can get the mini van from the parking lot.
"Thanks," I smile to the barista as I take our coffee from the counter and head outside. Bobbi's in the mini van already, checking the back to make sure we have everything. I climb in and hand her the coffee.
"All good?" I ask, she nods and turns back to the front to start the van. It wasn't a long ride, if we didn't have all this equipment we could've walked. The dust has pretty much all settled around the carter and on the object. We unload the truck. Tents and machinery, radars and gadgets. The area round the carter is quite rough so it took a while to find a reasonably flat part to set up.
---------
1 hour later everything was done and we turned on the machinery and connected the water. Soon the setup lit up and we started working. Samples of everything was taken and while I worked on those, Bobbi checked the monitors for radioactive frequencies, activity within the object, etc.
"Nat, we got 3 heat signatures left side of the object,"
"But there isn't any means of entrance," I walk into the tent, a handful of jars in my hands.
"I know,"
I stand behind her, analysing the monitor.
"There's reinforced attachments over there," I point out, my finger directing at the monitor.
"That could mean the entrance in underneath, wanna dig around?"
"Why not."
She walks out, dropping her jacket by the opening.
"Looks to be around 5 meters from the edge." I shout before following her out. She kicks at the dirt and some of it gives away. I look at her and she nods. I shift the dirt with my shovel and more dirt collapses.
"Tunnel,"
"But why? Nothing's left the object."
"Wait, how many people were hospitalised?"
"13, why?"
"Do we have footage of before it happened?"
"Yea. What are yo-. Oh,"
A/N: I'm in self-isolation so I've had a bit of time to write. This chapter is terrible. I promise better ones are coming. Hope you enjoy this tho.
