Kace Holland

I didn't bother charging after her. In fact, I made the more efficient choice and spent hours thinking. The only idea I had was to find Mallor and force information out of him.

"Get Mallor in the conference room. Now," I ordered one of my guards. They nodded and instructed the other guards, too. Once I got ahold of him, I'd understand what happened.

Until then—

"Sir, Mallor is out with Princess Senna," a guard called from the end of the hall.

The pulse point at my temples began throbbing as I spun around. This woman was going to be the death of me, and it was only a matter of time. "The hell do you mean?"

"They left toward the ports. Something about Lord Idrice."

I bolted to the foyer. She was not stupid. She wouldn't go alone. She wouldn't go without a plan, at least. "Load my carriage," I instructed, keeping myself as calm as possible. They all ran like me, noticing the urgency.

Where did I need to go? Rushing into the library, I yanked open the filing cabinets and grabbed as many papers that looked like they'd be somewhat useful. She took everything.

What the hell was her problem? I slammed the cabinet and ran back to the foyer, pulling myself into the carriage. "Get your horses and follow after," I yelled back at the guards. They sprinted off toward the stable and I got onto the front seat.

She better be smarter than this.

Kace was going to kill me for this.

It didn't matter anymore. What Lord Idrice was doing... I'd kill him.

My chest was heavy. My heart weighed down. I glanced at Mallor and wanted to punch him squarely in the face. Regret filled my bones at asking him to be here, but just in case something bad happened to our plan, I needed him here.

Kace wouldn't have helped me with this. He would've never understood. Even if I told him what Mallor did, he'd somehow think I was aware of it.

That I was aware my own brother killed his.

Shifting in my seat, I wiped away the raindrops on my belt. He'd never understand, and a part of me didn't want him to. Kace was awfully closed off. Losing Mallor would be devastating.

Everything that Mallor told me made sense. And because it made sense, Kace could never know. He couldn't know what actually happened that night. He could never know why my brother killed his.

"We're almost there, Princess Senna." Mallor broke my stream of thoughts.

Nodding, I straightened my posture. "Get your men in position once we get down."

Mallor pulled the window divider and began feeding instructions to his men.

Kace was going to kill me. Surely he would. Not only when he found out my Thresan killed Nicholyn, but that I knew why.

Thresan wasn't innocent, but he wasn't...

No, I couldn't justify it. He killed two people. But the reason lingered in the back of my head.
