Today Derek, Damian, and I were taking a walk to the store to get some bread for dinner tonight. We were singing old nursery rhymes:

“Up and down the city road,

In and out the eagle.

That’s the way the money goes,

Pop goes the weasel!

Half a pound of tuppenny rice,

Half a pound of treacle.

Mix it up and make it nice,

Pop goes the weasel!

Every night when I go out the money's on the table

Take a stick and knock it off,

Pop goes the weasel!”

We sang and sang that song and other nursery rhymes until we finally reached the store. We entered the store trying not to bump into people since the store was very busy. I tried to keep my attention on my brothers so I wouldn't lose them. My attention was torn from my brothers when I saw a candy stand and I knew immediately that I wanted some.

“Big brother, big brother look!” I said excitedly, getting his attention.

“What's up Emma?” he asked.

“Look!”I let go of his hand and pointed to the lollipops neatly piled in a cardboard box saying buy two get one free. Below them was the price tag saying ‘89¢.’

“Can we each get one, please! I begged while grabbing Derek’s hand again.

“We will see Em, okay? If we have enough money after we buy the bread we will get them,” Derek said. I nodded happily. “Okay, so are you ready to go get the bread?” Derek asked. I nodded excitedly, hopeful to receive the candy.

We walked to the bread aisle and grabbed a loaf of bread then made our way to the checkout. “So Em, how much money did mom give you?” Derek asked as we stopped walking, and moved to the side so we weren't in anyone's way.

I reached into my dress pocket and pulled out a $10 bill then handed him the bill. Then Derek said, “Okay Em, so the bread costs $2.50, so we should be able to get the candy.” he mumbled to himself but loud enough for me to hear.

My eyes lit up with joy and I smiled happily. Derek smiled back at me. “Okay, let's go get them sis.” Derek said.

I smiled, then out of excitement I ran towards the candy without either of my brothers. However the minute I let go of both Damin and Derek’s hand, and got about 2 feet away from both of them, I bumped into a tall man. “Whoops! Sorry, mister.” I apologized as I looked up. I was startled by his appearance. He had tangled, long blond hair tied to the side in a low ponytail draped over his shoulder, and brown eyes that looked red. He looked as if he hadn't slept in days. He wore a white lab coat like what a lab scientist would wear, along with a grey shirt, with some mysterious red stains, accompanied by black jeans, and sneakers. He also gave off a very uneasy feeling that made me feel sick to my stomach. I slowly took one step back to put some distance between us.

I didn’t realize I was shaking until he spoke. “Be careful to watch where you’re going, you might hurt someone or yourself,” he said in a threatening tone. His voice was kinda high for a man. Even so I was terrified.

I felt another presence behind me. Someone gently touched my shoulder. I whipped around in fear to see my older brother, but he wasn’t looking at me; he was glaring at the man I ran into as if he had hurt me or Damin, and he was ready to hurt him in  return.

The man suddenly spoke once again “It would be wise to keep track of your belongings before someone thinks it's theirs for the taking,” then  the man gave me and my brothers a very unsettling smile then left, bumping Derek’s shoulder harshly in the process.

“Are you okay Em?” Derek asked, crouching down to my level after the man left.

I nodded, still shaking a little bit. “I’m sorry,” I said with tears pricking my eyes. Derek saw this and hugged me tight. “Shhh…. It’s okay….you’re safe…..”

I nodded and looked up at Derek. “I wanna go home,” I said as I let a few tears slip.

“Okay, but do you still want the candy?” I shook my head ‘no’ in response. Derek nodded in understanding, “Well then let’s finish checking out with the bread and we can go straight home okay?” He then took my hand and I grabbed Damian's hand and we started making our way to the checkout line.

We checked out with the bread, and started to make our way back home. I was in the middle of my brothers holding both of their hands so I wouldn't lose either of them. The walk home was quiet. After about 15 minutes we made it home. Derek let go of my hand to open the door as he walked in, Damian and me closely followed behind him. Derek then closed and locked the door behind us, as we all took off our shoes. I helped Damian with his shoes while Derek went into the kitchen to set the bread down.

“We’re back mom!” Derek called throughout the house. No response. “Dad?” Derek called again. No answer. “Hello?” still nothing. “They must be out in the garden. Why don’t you and Damian head upstairs so you two can play while I go look for mom and dad?” I nodded then grabbed Damian’s hand and took him upstairs. We make it up the stairs and to our rooms that are right next to each other. I then turned to face Damian who was still holding my hand.  "So do you want to go to your room or my room to play? " He looked up at me and just shrugged. "Well do you just want to play with Legos quietly until big brother gets back? " he nodded and we walked into his and Derek's room and I looked around the room to find the bucket with the Legos. I spot it and let go of Damian's hand. " Go ahead and sit down where you want to play. " I told him, he nodded in response and went to sit on the floor not far from me. I walked over and grabbed the box with the legos in it and then proceeded to drag it closer to Damian and then took off the lid and tipped the bucket over to where the opening was facing us so we could get to the Legos. I then went and sat next to Damian, and we started to quietly build random stuff.

Not long after we started to build, big brother came in. " Whatcha building there Em? " I looked at the creation I made in front of me. To be honest I didn't even know what I was building. I looked back up at my older brother who was now sitting next to me and just shrugged. "Ha ha you don't even know ha ha ha... That's okay sis." He smiled at me, and I giggled softly letting him know I liked the joke too. Derek then looked at Damian to see what he was building. It looked like a box so I assumed i

He was trying to build a house for the lego people. “Wow that's really impressive.” said Derek, Damian is only 4 years old so he still hasn’t started school. Our mom and dad always tell us that Damian is very intelligent for a kid his age. I believe it because I’m only in kindergarten, almost 1st grade and one time I left my homework out and went downstairs to get an eraser because I made a mistake on the paper, and when i came back Damian had apparently used one of his crayons and crossed out my mistake and wrote the correct answer. Plus he finished the rest of the answers. All in crayon! When I showed my parents and my older brother they were shocked.

We then later had him tested and he showed to have the brains of a kid my age. This amazed my family as well as me. So ever since then we have just been trying to get him in schooling. Which would be great, but the school wont allow him to start until he turns five. Which won’t be too much longer. In fact his birthday is in the next few days, so I've been responsible for keeping an eye on him to make sure he doesn’t find anything like his presents before he’s supposed to. Other than that we didn’t really do anything interesting for the rest of the day. We eventually went downstairs to get washed up and ready for dinner. We ended up having a pot roast. Then we took our baths and got ready for bed. To head into the next day, which was a Monday, so we had to get to bed early to get up in time for school in the morning.
