Chapter 1
Growing up we are told that internet friendships are not legitimate in any way, shape, or form, every other person on the internet is a creepy old man sitting in his basement trying to lure you into his trap. The only friends you can have are those you can touch, those who are near you.
I call bullshit. There are times when those physically near you aren't willing to listen to your problems, or they don't care enough to be bothered to listen to you.
I have always been surrounded by technology; computers, video games, smartphones, it was a large part of my childhood, along with anime, unhealthy amounts of Ramen and fucked up sleep schedules.
In early 2011, I met my best friend, and soon to be my greatest love. It's almost embarrassing for me to admit... I met him on Tumblr.
The boy who has my total infatuation is named CJ Anderson, short for Charlie James Anderson. He lives in California while I'm in New York, about 2,902 miles away. We skype regularly, have phone calls and text, I know he's real. I have known him for almost ten years but we've never met in person... Yet. But that's going to change really soon.
I quickly grab my laptop and flop down onto my bed, open skype and click on his profile in record time. I call him and check over my appearance in the little window that shows myself. "CJ!" I scream when his face comes up. "CJ, I have really big news!"
"What's up?" He smiles at me, a little fear flickering in his eyes.
"I bought a ticket to Cali, I'm coming in about two weeks!" I squeal and flail my arms, "I'm coming to see you, CJ!" I watch his face, trying to figure out his emotions. His face goes from shock to blank to pure joy as his mind processes what I just told him.
CJ's face breaks into a huge smile. "You're not joking, are you?" He asks quickly as I shake my head. "I get to see my best friend of ten years for the first time-- oh my god! Ansel!" CJ begins to spaz out. "Two weeks isn't soon enough!" He suddenly cries. "What am I going to do until then?"
"Do what you normally do. Go to work and watch the dorky movies you always watch..." I suggest.
"But, it'll be nice to actually hold you." CJ sighs. "Ash! Ashley! Guess who's coming to Cali!" I heard a muffled voice in the distance. "No! Not my dad, why would he visit me?" Some more muffled speaking then suddenly Ashley suddenly barges through CJ's bedroom door. "It's Ansel! Ansel is coming to California to visit!"
"Finally! You've been talking about him for ages!" She sighs before flopping down on CJ's bed.
"Shut up..." CJ giggles. "Are you planning on staying in a hotel when you got here?" I nod. "You can stay here, we have a spare bedroom you could stay in," he smiles at me.
"As long as you're sure that it won't intrude," I say quickly. "I can stay in the hotel, I have the money."
"Of course you wouldn't be intruding! I mean, we have a spare room for a reason and I don't want you to... I just want to spend as much time as possible with you while I can." I grin at CJ.
"You two are such love birds! Just kiss and get married already!" Ash yells at us from the bed, throwing her hands up dramatically.
"We would, but sadly we're only talking on Skype, and we are unable to." I joke, watching CJ blush.
"Wait, how long are you planning on staying? You might be here for my birthday!" CJ squeals again. "Oh my god, that'd be awesome!"
"It's a one way ticket, I didn't want to set a limit on the amount of time we'd have together."
