you were placing some plates in the sink when you noticed a woman walk in. she was tall and was dressed formally.

"table for one?" you asked, grabbing a menu.
she nodded.

you waved your hand to signal her to follow you, and then led her to a booth.

"hey darling come over here!"

a group of men sitting in booth nearby have been bothering you the whole night. they reeked of alcohol and cigarettes, and called you over every few minutes to get a good look at you.

you reminded yourself that closing time was just in 10 minutes, so you wouldnt have to endure it for much longer.

"excuse me a moment." you told the woman, hoping she couldn't read the discomfort off your face.

you walked over to the men and asked what they needed.

"you sure you don't need someone to care for you, princess?" one of them said, smirking.

"i could use someone like you at home." said another one, placing his hand on your ass.

you didn't want to cause anything, especially since this job was pretty much all you had.
you didn't know where you would go if you got fired.

"take your hands off her." said a voice behind you.

you turned around to find the woman from before glaring at the men.

"hey, we were just playing around. no big deal."

"don't you think that means you shouldn't touch her?"

they all laughed.

one of them stood up and approached you, whispering something in your ear.

"i just know you're good in bed."

your eyes widened and you were left in shock.

"hey." said the woman.

the man turned around and found himself with a fist to the face.

the others gasped.
the room was silent, except for the AC that sat by the window.

"anyone else?" she asked, cleaning her hand on her pants.

they all shook their heads.

"then get the fuck out."

they all scrambled out the door, tripping over each other.

was she really that intimidating?

you were snapped out of your trance when she asked, "you alright?"

you looked at her.
you didnt notice before, but she had a scar over her left eye.

"yeah, thank you," you replied. "i still have a few minutes left until closing. you still want to order something?" you asked.

"i'd like that a lot." she responded.

you both ended up staying for another hour, getting to know each other and talking about your lives. when it was time to leave, she gave you her business card.

"thank you again." you told her, as she walked you to your car.

"anytime." she responded.

you felt bad for asking, but you could't
hold your curiosity in for much longer.

"what happened there?" you asked gently, pointing to her left eye.

she let out a sigh and looked off.
"let's say an altercation happened between friends."

you nodded.

"did it hurt?"

she stopped walking and stood there.

"it was what happened afterwards that did."

you looked down quietly, feeling guilty for asking.

"don't feel bad." she said, noticing your sympathy.
"meeting you has made it all go away."

you don't know why, but she made you feel warm inside. she made you feel... safe.

you leaned in and pecked her on the cheek.
"thank you for the walk." you said, speeding off to your car.

"did i really just do that?" you asked yourself. you felt your face getting hotter and hotter by the second.

"god, why did i even!" you exclaimed, getting into the drivers seat and starting up your car.
