Picture of Kade
4 Years Later
"You just won the world wide championship for the second year in a row. Who do you attribute your success to, aside from your own skill and hard work?" A journalist in the crowd called to Kade while the cameras flashed and took pictures of him and Darin, sitting at a table side by side.
"Well obviously there's my dad and manager who is sitting right next to me. He's been here for me since the beginning and helped me get my start. But the one who's really made my difference is Mrs. Maddox. My wife is my entire world. She gives me the courage I need to fight. She gives me a reason to fight. She gave me my beautiful son. My wife and my son are the reason I fight. They keep me going." The doorbell interrupted my ability to hear the next question.
"Mama mama! The door!" Flynn jumped from his spot next to me and ran to the front of the house.
"Flynn baby don't answer the door without mama! That's dangerous!" I scolded, immediately following after him. Before Flynn could reach for the door handle I pulled it open.
"Unka Ky!" Flynn screeched and jumped onto Ky, pulling him down.
"Woah there buddy! It's only been a week since you last saw me!" Ky laughed but hugged Flynn back nevertheless.
"Why you here?" Flynn pulled back suddenly, looking confused.
"Ah, thanks buddy. That makes me feel wanted." Ky put his hand over his heart and tried to look offended. "Your mom called me here!"
"Oh." Flynn shrugged and ran back into the house to do God knows what.
"I feel so loved." Ky rolled his eyes sarcastically then smiled at me.
"Hey Mer! Can I come in?"
"Of course you can." I laughed and let him pass.
"Mama, daddy is gone!" Flynn sounded completely surprised that the press conference had ended and Kade was no longer on the TV.
"Yeah baby, daddy is coming home now."
"Daddy!" Flynn screeched and stomped up and down with excitement. I couldn't help but giggle at his excitement. My baby boy loved his daddy.
I flipped the channel to a kid show for Flynn to watch and Ky and I ended up getting absorbed in it for the next half an hour.
"How the hell did we get so caught up in that dumb show?" Ky shook his head.
"I don't know." I admitted honestly. We both turned to Flynn when he giggled.
"Who do you love more Flynn? Mommy or daddy?" Ky bent down next to him.
"Um... mommy I think." It was adorable how Flynn couldn't decide, but I was secretly pleased that he chose me initially. I did spend more time with him than Kade did after all.
"Thank you baby! Why don't you go get your new train so you can show Uncle Ky?" I suggested. Flynn nodded eagerly and ran up the stairs as fast as his two little legs could carry him.
"So what's up?" Ky knew I had sent Flynn out of the room for a reason.
"Just some news to share!" I grinned, bursting with excitement.
"What, is it about Kade's press conference? I caught the beginning of it, seemed like he was humble as usual." Ky frowned and I couldn't tell if he was being serious or just joking. He and Kade got along much better now, with the occasional bicker over me.
"Yup, I love how honest he is about everything."
"He's always on there bragging about how much he loves you." Ky added.
"That's the best part!" I argued, sticking out my bottom lip.
Kade walked through the back door, whistling as he went.
"How's my lovely pregnant wife?" He called, and I internally face palmed. Way to ruin the surprise.
"Oh, hey Kade." Ky waved, pausing halfway through the motion. "Wait, did you say pregnant?""That's why I invited you over here silly! That's the news I wanted to share! We're having another baby." I giggled, completely ignoring what just happened. Right at that moment Flynn came back down with his train looking very confused.
"Train, daddy?" He asked, letting his train fall to the floor.
"DADDY!" Clearly Kade was the winner. Not letting me out of his arms, Kade bent down and grabbed Flynn.
"Hey buddy! Did you see me on TV?" He grinned. Flynn added.
"You is handsome." Flynn grinned back and we all started laughing.
"So when are you due?" Ky interrupted.
"In five months or so. We'll be finding out the gender soon." Kade answered for me.
"Ohhh. Give me a niece! I want the full experience." Ky laughed and pushed himself off the floor, dusting off his pants for dramatic effect.
"We'll try." I rolled my eyes.
"That we will." Kade winked at me and pecked my lips in greeting, making Flynn squeal.
"Ew! Let me down!" He begged, and Kade obliged. I saw Ky chasing Flynn out of the corner of my eye as Kade pulled me into a deep kiss.
"Did you hear what I said on TV?" He asked.
"Mhm. I especially liked that part about Mrs. Maddox." I smiled and stood on my tippy toes to kiss him again.
We were forced to break apart when the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it!" I told him, bouncing away before he could grab me.
"Flynn!" I heard Kade yell as my son giggled. I smiled and opened the front door.
"Dad?" My mouth fell open. I couldn't believe it.
"Hello Meredith." He smiled sheepishly. He looked older for sure. He looked tired and worn down, but happier than I had seen him for years.
"I-it's been a while." I breathed out.
"Yeah. It has been." Silence fell.
"So what's up?"
"I left your mother."
"You did?" I was genuinely surprised.
"Yes, and I married my high school sweetheart last month." My mouth fell open.
"I'm genuinely surprised." Silence fell again.
"Would you like to come in Dad? Would you like to meet your grandson?" He nodded eagerly.
"I would love to."
I stood aside and let me father in, knowing I could finally forgive him. I was older and wiser now. I had my own family to take care of, and they were the most important thing in the world.
I smiled and closed the door behind me.
