Harry P.O.V

Remus had spoken for an hour, telling me about my parents and their plan. And I was shocked.

It was a lot to take in. That my parents and godfather and Remus has a plan to kill Voldemort. That they had gone through so much to destroy him and Remus had known about my mission and he had forbidden me from doing it. He had practically completed everything, all the research and the hard work and he had gotten rid of multiple followers of Voldemort. But he still had not told me what the mission was and why and how he knew about the mission. (I think there were more spies and traitors in the Death Eaters than Voldemort ever knew, even excluding Snape, but I guess we'll never know!) Remus had told us all about Voldie's jewels, but for some reason I didn't believe that was the entire truth. I barely remembered all the convoluted relations that Malfoy had added to his family tree to make some sense of this mess.

And it was so weird to know that some people actually wanted to put in the effort to help rather than just tell me what to do and expect me to do the work. And I was so grateful that I didn't have to do all the work for once. That's why I had listened to Remus when he told me to leave it all alone. I was tired of the fighting and putting me on the front lines without telling me or helping me in any way that mattered.

"You guys literally saved my life. I mean, I would have probably died completing the mission that Dumbledore assigned me and knowing Hermione and Ron, they would have joined me in that mission whether or not I gave them the specifics. And I would have gotten them killed as well. Just like I got Sirius killed because of that trap that I led everyone into, and what with giving Wormtail another chance and..."

"Alright, Harry Potter. Please do shut up this instant." Remus interrupted my tirade. "It's not your fault Sirius died, and you did not get Ron or Hermione killed. Leave it at that."

I was hit with an overwhelming feeling of guilt as I looked into Remus' eyes. He was the only one of the marauders still alive, one of two people from their year remaining. And he was a werewolf, one of the few creatures with a much shorter lifespan that witches or even humans. And he had expected to die before his friends and year-mates. Instead, he was the one still alive. And here I was being melodramatic about my own life, when I hadn't actually gotten anyone killed directly. Resolving to think before I complained again, I turned back to the matter at hand.

"So, what's next? What else did you all plan?" I asked, because obviously the marauders would have a back up plan. From what I had seen, their entire game was to kill two birds with one stone, so this plan seemed slightly basic for them.

"We did have something else planned." Remus admitted. "See, Dumbledore knew that Peter was the traitor. He knew that Sirius was innocent and that the Ministry would suspect me as well, considering we are, were, best friends. He was the one whose vote kept Sirius and me away from you. We are your closest relative, what with us being your parent's honorary siblings and all. Three years ago, Sirius and I made a plan to destroy Dumbledore as he had destroyed your childhood and life. We knew that if we worked with Dumbledore's supposedly most loyal minion, we could get rid of him."

He paused for a breath, and I digested everything I just heard. The 'supposedly most loyal minion' would have to be Snape. And obviously, neither Remus nor Snape got along well with the other, and I'm assuming it was worse with Sirius and Snape. But all three had collaborated to take down Dumbledore, which was surprising to say the least.

"Dumbledore cursed himself sometime ago, and he asked Sniv- Snape to kill him. We decided to go with that, because even if he dies a hero, it wouldn't make a difference to anyone alive. He would be dead and that's all that mattered at that time." Remus looked completely smug that everything had gone the way he wanted it to. The only thing that I suppose would spoil his mood is if Dumbledore himself walked through the door right now, back from the dead.

"So, you and Sirius collaborated to have an apparently manipulative Dumbledore killed, and then Voldemort or rather Tom Riddle to be killed after that?"

"Not in that order." Remus frowned at me in disappointment. "We just collaborated to have both of them killed. And we had to involve Snape. We had to threaten Snape to help us! It was a lot of work, not as simple as you make it out to be!"

I raised my eyebrows at the pouting werewolf, though I was curious as to what they threatened Snape with. "What did you threaten Snape with?"

"Ah, well. That..." Remus turned slightly green. "Lily castrates people very well. I suppose Sirius is still suffering that, like I will when I die." Suddenly he turned gleeful, and I stared at him, suspicious of this mood change. "Oh, Lily will so love to beat you up for all the messes you have gotten into!"

Unwilling to think about that right now (or ever), I turned the topic back to my expertise – defeating Voldemort. "Wait. Now all I have to do is kill Voldemort?"

Turns out, it's not as simple as just "killing Voldemort", because apparently the evil dark lord refused to tell anyone wheee he was after the entire disastrous mess of his followers mysteriously dying. So now, I had to wait until Mr. I'm-going-to-kill-everyone turned up at Hogwarts to actually kill everyone. And according to Snape, whom I still did not trust, Voldie wouldn't attack until he was sure that he could conquer Hogwarts.

Which I found utterly ridiculous. I had read quite a few books in the past year, whenever I got bored. And every time, the villain or the bad guy would try to take over the world or destroy something difficult to destroy. And here Voldemort was trying to take over a boarding school. And failing at that, as is shown by the past 6 years. It was honestly embarrassing, so embarrassing that I was embarrassed.

Either ways, the next four months we're spent with me practising my fighting with Malfoy or spending more time with Hermione, Ron, Fred, George and Ginny. Sometimes, even Malfoy joined our little get togethers, 'just to spice things up'.

Malfoy wasn't so bad when we got to know him. At least he was positively cheery when he was being civil, not referring to his father every alternate sentence or threatening us. He turned out to be a voracious reader, and got along really well with Hermione (as long as he was seated well away from her. This was either because he was afraid of her or because she was muggleborn. Personally I thought it was the former.). Unfortunately, Malfoy seemed to get a lot of fun out of provoking Ron, every time they were in the same room. And I had to admit that Malfoy was a master at poking right where it hurts. Surprisingly, Fred and George got along well with Malfoy, and they often spent all their time together pranking us.

I did not like Malfoy yet, nor did I trust him. But he was making an effort to let me be in peace and in return I was doing the same to him. We were as far away from good friends as one could get on the 'friends' scale. Overall, the months of January to April was entirely entertaining.

And then May started.

And everything went to hell.

Why?

Oh, the most evil douchebag in the world decided to attack Hogwarts.

The Golden Trio and the Weasley Twins are now temporary friends with Malfoy, simply because they have nothing better to do. Also, Malfoy is a very nice guy with very skewed up views on people, life, blood and magic thanks to his wonderful parents.
